My 68 Charger 383-4 automatic need a rebuild. Shop with the best reputation and warrantly wants $2338.

Is that resonable? THis is the numbers matching transmission and as far as I can tell it is original.

Any other suggestions?

thanks!

Rip off ...  :Twocents:

unless that trans needs every part replaced it shouldn't cost more than about $700. Master rebuild kits are only about $100-$150. labor should be about $200-$300 from  a trans shop, if they know what they are doing. Does that price include removing and reinstalling the transmission? then that's about the going rate...

yes remove and reinstall included

I would shop around, I still that price is a little high for a rear wheel drive. i wouldn't pay more than $1,500.

I would expect K-Y Jelly and a kiss along with that.  :smilielol:
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Granted, I am in Ohio so I doubt I pay the same labor costs...

I had the big block 727 rebuilt on my Power Wagon. This included removal and re-installation on a 4x4 (so they had to deal with the extra drive shaft and transfer case) along with an upgraded steel sprag and a new torque converter. Total cost was less than $1,300. I don't honestly remember the breakdown between parts/labor and I gave the new owner the receipt when I sold the truck. I want to say parts were a little over $700 but I think the sprag alone was $150.

I was quoted a little more than that to have the 727 in my Charger "restored" (not including R+R or any upgraded parts).

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

If you could do the removal and install, I heard this company is really good.

I don't know how good they are but Summit has a TCI  727 regular valve body for under $1100. :Twocents:

I get $400 plus parts to do a carry in as a base price.

Actually just gave an estimate a few weeks ago to do a ram 1500 2wd. Told him $1500 provided it does t need any hard parts

I ran TCI transmissions in past customers' cars behind stock 383s all the way up to mild 500hp builds with no issues.  :shruggy: :Twocents:

myk

I paid about $1200 for a rebuild and a converter back in '96.  I would imagine that it shouldn't cost much more than that, now.  $2300?  For a computer controlled transmission like the ones in my 90's cars yes, but for a 727, I would think not...
