Mad Max Fury Road Review by Bob

Without a doubt one of the best vehicular action movies this year and likely next year too. I could go and see it again and see more stuff going on, there's a lot happening at once

Pretty much non stop full on action and believable stunts not some F & F ridiculous garbage. Similar to MMI & II.

Usual screenplay, gas raiders and power/control/nomadic existence and redemption.  What else would you expect?
And lots of really cool off road machines like a couple of heavy duty Aussie Valiant Chargers and the giant guitar playing War Boy shooting rockets out of his twin neck .

Charlize Theron has some really gritty performances and Tom Hardy is good as tough nut/ low word count Max.


I give it an 8.75

Well, yes lol.  However scuttlebutt has it that the main character is Charlize Theron, and it chronicles her struggle to free herself and a group of female slaves from the clutches of....the slave traders/road warriors.  Max is merely a secondary character that helps Charlize in her fight which, consequently, is almost the same formula used in Mad Max 2/Road Warrior...

Yep, pretty much. The Director still needed a workable premise for Max to rise to the occasion for a ''righteous cause'' and this fits the bill.
But for me, it has more real value with this franchise instalment than F & F Hollywood retreading....  Dom and the rest of the crew will watch this and think "Damn, that's a good movie"

Saw some stuff on the net this morning about a Men's Rights group slamming it for being a feminist positive movie and urging boycotts. Man, get a life  guys, just accept its not your thing and move on.

Might have to have a Mad Max I & II and maybe III extravaganza at Bob's place this weekend.
My Wife was annoyed that I went to see it yesterday without her while she was working as I'm on holiday at the moment. "No problem'' I said, " I'll be going back to see it again so we can both go"

Redemption ...

That is my take away from a really good movie ... 

Lots of action but not the Michael Bay Transformer Overload style where you cannot follow everything that is on the screen ...

Unless Max had two copies of his V8 Interceptor this movie has to be a reboot in its own universe.  


Having said that, this was an awesome flick.

It no longer seems linked to 1980s Australia at all.  That's about the worst criticism I could make.  The landscape & setting & people & vehicles . . . . it's all taken up a couple notches farther into fantasy-land, but in a good way.  It's about as stunt-filled as it can get.  Very uncompromising.  Most of the movie is one long running chase that speeds up & slows down at times.  There is violence with some actual blood.  

Give props to Warner Bros - they saw early footage of the stunts/etc during production, and gave the movie a bunch more money to shoot more stuff and let them release it R-rated.

"Max"  = poorly cast. The guy may have had 50 lines in the whole move. It's a Charlize movie and she's good. The rest...not so much.
Car action was great.

The feeling seems to be mixed on Tom Hardy for Max.  (He was the masked Bane villian in the last Batman movie, looking totally different here.)  He didn't do a BAD job but he doesn't feel like the old Max at all.  Just feels like a completely different guy.  He actually had way less than 50 lines in this. 

I disagree about lots of physics-defying scenarios.  Compared to other modern action movies this one kept it pretty real.  It's not 100% reality but no movie this big ever is.

Went to see it last night. A few thoughts...

1) The visuals are amazing

2) The stunts are batshit crazy.

3) Third Gen Charger.

4) Lots of stuff blowing up.

5) There are movies with chase scenes. This whole movie is a chase scene.

6) As Mrs. Ponch pointed out, no profanity and no gratuitous nudity in the entire movie.

7) Go see it.

I never quite understood the continuity / world building of the original movies. In the first movie, the world seemed more or less normal but you got the idea that something was off. The second one got into the cod-pieces and the dudes dressed like Raider fans. Thunderdome was straight up sci-fi....mutants, midgets, feral children. Even though a few years pass between the stories of the movies, it still seems like a pretty fast decay of civilization. From a practical standpoint, all the retro-fitted vehicles and McGyvered machinery of the second and third movies would have taken a lot longer to develop. But I know...movie...suspension of disbelief. Theyre still awesome.

Loved it, loved the shotgun scenes, and it makes me wonder if the xb falcon will be max's equivalent to the fast and furious charger, where it appears every film just to get destroyed

There was a behind-the-scenes interview comment about the car.  Max was losing his last ties with the old world and eventually even having to fight against it.  The car was falling victim to the workings of that world.  Everything gets destroyed & cannibalized & rebuilt into something else.   


There will be more of these movies coming.  Maybe Max can get his hands on another Falcon, or maybe they'll fix that one and not keep wrecking it.  Charlize's character runs that whole place now and she owes him a favor.

I saw the movie today and all I can say is wow! There is too much going on to take it all in at once, with lots of references to the first 3 films. If your into car chase/demo movies you have to see it on the big screen. Also thought it was cool that the actor that played the toecutter in Madmax is Immortan Joe in this film. Miller said in a interview that he has 2 more scripts written and if the movie does well enough at the box office they will be made. I hope so!
