need something explained

Ok I just watched a show called "Musclecar". In the episode they were taking one of the 2F2F '70 Challengers and restoring it... sorta. They were planning on adding modern things to the car like airbags and such.

Anyways during the whole show they talked about many different muscle cars from the dodges to the chevys. Ok here's what I need explained. From Year One you can now buy a whole chassis/frame/body of a Camaro. We're talking all new metal! They don't take old bodys and fix them up, I mean that accuatlly are remaking them as someone would be reproducing fenders.

Year One also states that you can buy EVERY SINGLE PART needed to make an entire Camaro from them. I know this will spark off another debate but if you buy one of these "bodies", how would you get the car insured. Year One states they are made for cars that have bodies that are too rusted to restore so you can buy one of theirs. Isn't that illegal? You'd have to switch your VIN and fendertag over to the new body which is REALLY new!

Hopefully this will turn out. If you go to the Camaro section of year one you'll see the Convertible Body Shell they have for sale. For just under $10,000 you can have a brand new body shell for your camaro!

actually i was just about to post this same thing i thought that it was neat but illegal i doubt it, they do the same thing with shelby cobras they call it a kit car

I thought those bodies had a stamping on them to note they were not original?  I do not think you swap over your vin, I thought when purchased the came with a MSO or such that was used to title the car.

Not sure but I have read this before.

That could be. Just the way it was explained stating that if your old camaro's body was too rusty, to buy one of these and replace it.

oh boy im getting excited somday i can only think that they will make one for a charger  :icon_smile_tongue:

bull

What fries me is that they can repop entire Camaros but can't seem to find the time to repop Charger fenders. You might give me the $$$ argument but I find it hard to believe they made more '69 Camaros that they did '68-'69 Chargers. Maybe they did but I bet it's close.

Here's what I found: '69 Camaro - 243,085 http://www.yearone.com/updatedsinglepages/Id_info/camaro/camaroprodnums.html

way to go man Where's that can-o-worms smilie?

Now all the rabid VIN purists will come and state that it's an illegal to buy one of those repopped bodies and stick a VIN on it from another camaro.

And for bull.
Get used to it craperos are a dime a dozen and they can make the most money from the chevy people out there.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms should be a convenience store NOT a government agency!

But my point is that the '69 is not a dime-a-dozen car. That was a one-year-only body style of which they apparently made fewer than 250,000. If that's the same company I'm thinking of making Camaro bodies they were planning on making Mustang bodies and either Challengers or Cudas too but for whatever reason they scrapped plans for anything but the Camaro.

BLACKWOLF

i have heard on other shows that those camaros come with a new vin. #. the show "RIDES" did one.

Isn't it obvious that the President of year one  loves camaro's?
Wonder what the shipping costs would be if you ordered every part to build a "new" camaro. :scratchchin:

I would think they'd have to go to state patrol and they would note in title that its restamped/swapped body

I sent Dynacorn, (the manufacturer of the Camaro body) a few questions regarding the VIN tags & title procedure of the repro body. In the meantime, this question & answer was in their frequently asked questions section:

Greg Marier's Question:
Hello, I am wondering about the vin tag. Or registration, title. How would a person go about getting one of these registered? Also, when it was registered it wouldn't be a " '69 " or would it be an '04? I am also wondering if a door from a coupe with glass would work on the convertable as well.
Thank you for your time.
-Greg

Joe Parts answered on 9/13/2004:     (Dynacorn's answer page)
I twill come with a unique application for a VIN. As they are maanufactured in the state of NC by a licensed car manufacturer, they will come with their own vin for registration purposess.

Seems to me it isn't the same as a rebody. (Illegally switching VIN tags)

Thanks Old Moparz! So they do come with their own VIN but people can still substitute it for their own. Damn Camaro people  :icon_smile_big:

The manufacturer never really answered the question of 1969 or 2006. If it is a 2006 would it have to pass the strict new car emissions ? ???

and safety laws too like airbags and testing it's impact survivabilty.

I would imagine that in most places it will be registered just like a kit car. You do not need to bring the car up to current safety and emissions standards under those laws (except in CA where I believe the emissions are totally dependent on year of manufacture). What this means is that if the majority of the car is from a "donor" then the car will take its year of manufacture from the donor. This is how you see brand new Cobra replicas titled as 1966 models. Usually the "majority" is the engine and driveline. I am pretty sure that if you use a crate motor and aftermarket trans then you'd have to title it as a 2006. As usual, the laws vary widely by state. I also haven't researched them all in a few years so they've probably changed.
