Who has had Gall Bladder problems here in the past?

I'm asking because mine has been bothering me for the past month again, but more persistently and painfully. I thought there was a member here that had his burst or came close to it, but I couldn't find the post in my site search. The reason I wanna know about that post is because they have already done blood test two weeks ago again (second one now), and a ultra sound last year, and both came back negative. I remember reading that in the other persons post, he had the same problem with tests being negative. I'm going to see mt doc again tomarrow, and I'm hoping to bring up something he hasn't looked at yet. My Doc is cool and open minded when it comes to advise.

I had mine taken out about a year and half ago.  If you are having any problems I  am surprised they haven't told you to just have it taken it out.  Mine wasn't even bothering me but I had a bunch of gallstones in it and after going through kidney stones I didn't want to take any chances.

My dad nearly died from it 20 years ago. I remember him rolling around on the floor in pain but the doctors kept giving him the run around. Finally a nurse diagnosed him in about 2 minutes. At that time the surgery was much more invasive and he was on the table for over 8 hours. Later that night his lungs colapsed and if my mom were not in the room he would have not made it.

My sister had hers removed when she was about 24 years old and my mom had hers out in her late 30's both without issue. I am hoping my turn does not come up soon.

If you are having pains in the back or abdomen you probably should get another opinion rather soon.

I had mine out 10 years ago. I didn't know what my problem was. The pain was really bad and I would lose sleep when I had the attacks. One night while away on business, I had an attack and my buddy told me his wife went through it and it was the gall bladder. I went to the doctor and had the ultra sound and he didn't even give me the option to NOT have it removed.

The surgery was cake. I have had lots of various operations over the years to piece me back together, and that surgery was as easy as getting my wisdon teeth pulled. However, recovery did take a while. If I tried to lift anything over 10 or more pounds, my guts would ache. That lasted about a month. The only side effect I have had is I developed acid reflux issues almost immediately afterward. But that is pretty easy to take care of.

Anybody else?

I just had mine yanked early Sunday morning.  There were no real warning signs until Friday evening, but then I had what seemed like the worst possible case of indigestion that would not go away all night.  After 9 hours of zero rest, finally went to the ER early Saturday.  They did several tests and eventually an ultrasound showed multiple gallstones.  It was inflamed way worse than they thought once they got in there to do the surgery, so it definitely needed to go.

As bad as the "attack" was, it paled in comparison to the shoulder pain right after surgery (laparoscopic method).  THAT was no fun at all, but at least it lasted less than a day.  What licked that problem was just some time along with doing the breathing exercises they wanted me to do - which could only be done once I gave in and took the pain meds (had declined everything over Tylenol to that point).  The surgery itself was not so bad, and recovery has gone respectably well.  I was back at work on Wednesday, even though the recommendation was to take the whole week off.  That's the bane of being a small business owner.  At least my Dad was able to fill in for a few days.

I am, however, not looking forward to cutting grass tonight...

My step-dad just had his removed weds evening. It runs in his family to get the stones and problems. He put it off three years, but it got so bad he went to ER per his drs orders and they took it out. They did three small incisions around his belly button to get it out. Hes resting and feeling much better now. He cant lift anything over 10lbs for awhile and watch the fatty food consumption. Why do men wait till their practicality dead before they go to the dr?????? Anyone????:shruggy: :shruggy: :brickwall: :brickwall:

just had a guy on my deployment team get his cut out last week...   all of a sudden he had stomach cramps, pain, etc - he described it so I told him "sounds like your gall bladder" - he was taken to a local army camp, diagnosed, and one organ less within about 3 hours.

My old man had his taken out the "old school" way around 25 years ago...    about an 18" scar diagonal across his stomach from that one...    yokes!

My wife has gall bladder trouble so she has researched it quite a bit. Her doctor sent her to a specialist who wants to remove it, but my wife decided to see what the effects will be if you don't have one. After reading up on it she was angry that the specialist didn't go into detail about what the purpose of the gall bladder is. If you dislike digestive troubles, keep in mind that once you have the gall bladder removed the chances of increased digestion problems rises.

Here is a link explaining what the gall bladder does & what you might have to deal with without the gall bladder. You will probably need to make some big changes in your diet & may not be able to wander too far from a bathroom.....

if you like getting violently sick to your stomach depending on what you eat. don't have it taken out.

the operation does not take long, and there are only a couple small incisions about 1/8". left the hospital the next morning. never had any issues again since 1999.
