And there are issues with the boots on the bulb sockets on some of them too.

Where/what is the black paint you speak of behind the grill ?

I can go look at mine, it has not been redone other than exterior only repaint, the rest is still original paint.

The paint on the radiator yoke...should be blacked out so as not to see body color behind the grill....

MxRacer855

Radiator yoke? You mean the front side of the core support?

Ghoste

Yes.  Basically just what he said, when you look through the grille you should not see body color.

If the hood depression decals were to go on a black car for uniformity, would they still be gloss going on gloss?

My car is painted gloss black and I think a satin would look great on there.
Just like the tail panel!  :2thumbs:

Jeff

I believe they are flat/matte black to match the matte black paint around the signal indicator lenses.

One of the boots on mine tore pretty easily just trying to install it.

Ghoste

IIRC are there not some being sold without boots at all?  And some without the black paint on the lens.

So......without having to do my own research, which are the best ones to buy.

Here is a list with links attached. I have not experienced any of these products. This is just to show what's out there, what comes included and their prices. Keep in mind that some of these suppliers will have higher costing shipping rates than the others. If doing it on-line you almost have to completely check out before shipping cost is determined.

I'm thankful that I have bought a used set of housings that came with the retainer brackets and light bulb sockets for $45.00 shipped. I already had the lenses from a group buy. And I will make my own complete wire harness from light bulb socket to the plug-in terminal by the brake booster. No way I'm paying their prices for the main harness. Also you will find out that some of these suppliers sell parts from these kits separately and the prices on them are insane. Example on one of them, $35.00 just for a pair of retainers!

Anyway I hope this helps, going by price alone and what comes with the kit it looks like Herbs or Monicatt.

Charger Specialties $219.95 set plus S&H (no main harness and no rubber boots)

http://www.chargerspecialties.com/signals.htm

Krusinmoons $225.00 set plus S&H (no main harness and no rubber boots)

http://www.krusinmoons.com/reproductionproducts.html

Classic Industries $204.99 set plus S&H (no main harness and no rubber boots)

http://www.classicindustries.com/product/mopar/parts/mb309.html

Monicatt $215.00 set plus S&H (Has main harness and rubber boots)

https://www.monicattichrysler.com/comersus/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4581#

Herbs $214.00 set plus S&H (Has main harness and rubber boots)

https://www.herbsparts.com/products.asp?cat=655&pg=3

And.......................

Year One $319.98 set plus S&H (no main harness and no rubber boots) but for an extra $55.99 you can get the main harness. Total would be $375.97 plus S&H.

https://www.yearone.com/Product/chrysler-b-body/jh112s

https://www.yearone.com/Product/chrysler-b-body/jh114

So if you can catch Year One with one of their 30% off deals that would bring the total for the set to $223.98 NOT including the main harness. If you include the main harness it would come to $263.18 with the 30% off plus S&H. Surprisingly YEAR ONE is currently offering 30% off thru Midnight Monday.

Now I wouldn't expect anyone to buy these from YO, I just listed them to show how insane that these prices are for a hood turn signal set is. Probably just under $400.00 after they tact on S&H WOW!!!

There is also BEA who have them for 214 with harness and boots.  Roseville Mopar Parts has them for the same price and they use the same photo as BEA so I suspect Roseville is getting them from there.  I have held the the Roseville ones in my hand and they seem like a decent part.  PG Classics have them for 205 with harness and boots.

I got mine from PG Classic and used a sale code to get them down in the $175-$180 range.

Dang it! You guys made me go out and look. Mine came from Year One back in mid-2008 (so, almost 7-years ago now?). Don't remember what they cost then, but they seem more amber than yellow, and are just raw plastic (no paint outline at all). I remember that I didn't entirely like how they looked when I got the car back, but there were so many thing not to like that I didn't catch that particular error (I almost didn't get the car back at all, so....have to keep that in perspective).  I don't suppose there is an easy fix for this?

Ghoste

You can buy the lenses with the blacked out portion without buying the whole kit but easiest and cheapest is probably just some very careful paint application.

I kinda think they would have for no other reason than for uniformity of the assembly process but then they could have saved a few bucks by leaving them off. I've asked a similar question about the black paint on the panels behind the grill but I don't recall getting a solid answer.

According to the documentation, the dark painted cars didn't need the black paint on the radiator support (since it was purely to keep the color from showing through the grill). However, I found all the usual black out treatment on my black 68 so they may have just put it on everything to avoid confusion for the line workers. This is my blue 68:

This one stopped at the upper and lower cross supports but I've seen basically the entire forward facing surface painted. My lime green 70 Challenger is like that.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

That's my thinking on the hood depression decals too but there's no predicting what the factory workers felt like doing on any given day.

Ghoste

Especially if it was going to buy them a few seconds to light a smoke or something.

tiki

back n black can you post your hood w/red decal and hood signals

MxRacer855

Just curious guys, what kind of glue do you use to install the indicator lights?

Lennard

No glue, the whole unit clamps on to the hood with a bracket.

MxRacer855

It's funny... because my indicators were completely glued tight to my hood when I removed them before the resto!
Half-ass job the previous owners did!!!

Thank you

Jeff

Mine had the block off plates instead of the turn signals. When I went to remove them they had glue type sealer around them plus the OEM stud, nut and backing plate. I think that they added a sealer to prevent water leakage into the engine compartment. They meaning the factory. If not from factory then previous owner's of my Charger

Dino

I doubt the factory did that.  Or at least I hope they didn't.  I'd rather have the water get into the engine bay than sit in the hood depressions until the water finds another way.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Lennard

My '68 has the delete plates and no glue or caulk around it.
