My twist on a General Lee

This is my twist on a General Lee a lot of people have taken there chargers and made a general from it i went a bit different and did what i call a ghost lee. 1st i had a ghost image of the numbers made and put them on the doors just enough to see it. My car has a vinyl top and wasn't able to do the flag or name but plan on that in the future when i have the paint redone and the vinyl top taken off i will do the roof detail. I also stuck a picture of the general lee under the hood along with the name on both sides of the engine compartment than i added a ghost 01 under the picture. Here's some shots of what i did.

This is really cool and I think if you give the top the same treatment when redoing the paint it will look even cooler.

That is what i thought about telling people who asked or said any thing..LOL. Had my 1st show yesterday and it was well received by patrons got a lot of comments, it is the best of both worlds for the people who like them stock and for the people who dont mind the general lee... thanks

This kind of restoration is exactly what's ruining this hobby.

Nothing wrong with a 318! do i wish it had a bigger motor? ...sure but it will do for now if anything ever happens i will keep it a small block though ill up grade to a 360 or 340 but for now it works just fine and gas mileage is great. I dont race it I show it and drive it

I'm not much a fan of copying another vehicle so I've never really had eyes for General Lees, but you put your own twist on it, and it came out great

I'm a big block fan myself but the 318's are great engine's and last forever!!!! Small block's have their place in muscle cars for sure, a few years back I built a 416 ci stroker out of a 340 for a 68 barracuda and it was awesome!! It was built more for the strip than the street and it had a 175 shot of spray on it too so it was not a slouch!!! Most people thought we were running a big block in it!!! That car hurt alot of feeling's at our local drag strip!!! You engine look's great and very nicely done!!!

Interesting concept.....

I tend to like subtle styling......so it's no surprise a GL isn't very high on the to do list. It's still a Charger and a Mopar, and a very nice one.

Definitely would like to see it in person.

As for a 318......

With the hood up......no matter what you do, it's not as impressive as a BB.

I'm more impressed with what happens with the hood down......like driving. I, being a big fan of stealth, see some serious fun with a SB stroker......

Yes.....some interesting possibilities with a stealth GL........

I like the lee touch its not over the top.
BTW I like your engine bay detailing.

Nothing wrong with a good running smallblock. Lots of guys running low comp big block turds that cant move their own a$$ properly....
And if you want to mess around with that engine some day you could always add 2 turbo's, get some extra attention because of them and spank some powerfull big blocks also......

Thanks Guys, If it wasn't for the Dukes of Hazzard i would have never of known about a charger,when i 1st saw it on tv when i was a teenager i asked a friend of mine what kind of car that was not knowing... and because of that show started my love with cars and was the reason my 1st 3 cars as a teenager were 70 chargers but always wanted a 69 so when i sold a 69 camaro that i owned last year to buy the car i always wanted i had to do some sort of tribute to the General Lee seeing that it was the car that started it all. I actual got the idea from you tube someone did the same type of thing with a 68 and i said to myself that can work with me as well so i did it. It seems to make the purest happy as well as the fans of the general lee.

It was the same for me. I was 9 or 10 years old when the dukes started. From that moment of seeing the General Lee I was obsessed with the Charger.

Very cool, i was considering a similar idea of a silver painted Charger with the paint peeling off in strategic locations to expose an Orange General Lee underneath.
Personally, i like the 318, with the right exhaust they sound awesome and they don't completely overwhelm the engine compartment. Yours is a very clean and sanitary installation with the right amount of tech.

That would be kool to, I did something very similar to my jeep wrangler but i used the mountain dew scheme from dale jr car and had it peeling away around the door numbers and hood to make it look like the car was underneath.
As far as the exhaust i just put a new one on using glasspacks and it sounds pretty nice with the mild cam it has.

I get that a lot. "Cool car, what engine's it got?" - "318? When you gonna put a real motor in there??" - Lately, instead of answering about how the 318 is a good motor and I still get decent mileage, maybe I'll build a stroker down the road, it's a work in progress, yada yada... I just say with a straight face that it had a 440 in it, but I scrapped that boat anchor. And no, I don't plan on ever painting it! The resulting looks of horror/confusion/disgust have been much more entertaining.

I think some people are looking for effect ...balls to the wall WOW engine and that's good if that what you want but this is a driver and works just fine for me plus a lot of the driven general lees had a 318 in them as well in the show. The days of driving like a wild man and breaking things are over...I hope

Yup, absolutely nothing but respect for the 318. My first engine build was a 318 that ended up in my daily driver 87 Dodge Ram. I did a lousy job on the rebuild, didnt break it in correctly, ran it with low oil pressure, low oil, over revved it, you name it, but the dang thing started every time, never left me stranded and plowed my driveway until the body and everything else around the motor crapped out.

The car looks great!!

It's awesome because it's an orange car if you just want that, and has a number in it if you want that too!
You know what I mean?
Lots of people will just see the orange, but once you notice the number, you'll always see it from there on out.

That makes it awesome!

The numbers are a decal done in a shadow gray tint before and after the number outline I wanted the viewer to see it but not stand right out. The picture really dose not do it justice it looks even cooler in real life. And your right it is the best of both worlds, even people who don't like the charger being turned into a general lee thing don't seem to mind.

Everyone says general Lee's are everywhere but besides a dukes event, I have only seen 2 in my life and I live 30 minutes from Nashville tn. I don't think they are riding around everywhere like people say.

I dont believe so i got them off eBay over a year ago from some speed shop down south somewhere he was the cheapest that i could find selling them really nice to work with to.
