Looking for some advice. A buddy of mine has a Dana 60 out of a 68 Hemi Charger that i would like to put in my 68,  I currently have an 8 3/4 with 373. The Dana is completely rebuilt with I believe he said True Track and 373 gears. He wants $2000 for it. Don't have lots of experience with axels so i can't really answer questions. The guy selling only uses the best parts, he has lots of drag racing experience and came recommended when i had him rebuild my 8 3/4.
Is this a good price?

Depends on what it comes with... what ends does it have?  does that include brakes?  how about axles?

You can have one built for that price depending on options - so you are not getting a "steal of a deal" either...

Honestly, if your going to sink the coin have what you want built.  Put the Ford Big ends on it, good axles.  Now is the time to have it made to you length specifications if your going to add wider wheels/etc.

Dr.Diff can set you up and I am *sure* will voice his opinion as well :)

Doesnt come with brakes, im putting the wilwoods i adapted to my 8 3/4 on it. I welded flanges on my axel so i didnt have to use the green bearings. Do you have contact info for Dr Diff.

Lennard

Why do you want a much heavier Dana 60?

Lennard, if you dont mind i will give you a call tomorrow, give you some history on the axel i have and looking for advice. im running the 2001 Viper V10 (525 HP) with 6 speet Tremec, ive been told the 8 3/4 will have limitations.

Lennard

I'm not Dr.diff, I'm just giving you his contact info. ;)
An 8 3/4 has it's limitations but I know people that have well built ones under their dragracer and handle 800 hp with slicks on a prepped track. If you don't use slicks on your car your axle will live a long life.

Sorry for the mistake Lennard.
Im considering going with the Reilly street lynx rear suspension. I came into some unexpected cash so if i go with this suspension i would like to do it with the dana.

I really can't think of any benefits for a Dana 60 over a well built 8 3/4 in your situation but if that's what you want then that's what you gotta do.

Its cooler to say you have a dana 60 just like saying one has a HEMI vs 440 etc.... :icon_smile_big:

Dana's are cool period.

If you want something OEM looking that is what you need and will pay for it. OEM rebuild Danas go for that kind of cash.....
If you can haul it home yourself you save on shipping also.

Dr. Diff can build you a new axle for little less more. However, Dana's are heavy so shipping is going to be a bummer.
And He uses the Strange S60 housing wich is not OEM correct....

I recently bougt a dana60. One advise I can give you is to take a look at the axle tubes. Mine was used for dragracing in its former life. The previous owner rewelded the spring perches in the OEM location resulting in a bent axle tube on one side. I found out the hard way....

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

That is what I did on my Charger (Viper Gen3).  Street Lynx, Dana 60 (I used Moser, but Strange works too), 3.73 with Truetrac and good axles.  Have it built.  Put the Ford Torino big ends on it (I'll keep reminding you of that!!!).  You can easily get the adapters from wilwood for a direct bolt on of your brakes - with those ends it opens up your options of rear brakes dramatically.  You wont have to jack around with green bearings/etc/etc.

I put 335's on mine with 12" wide Forgelines.  So I had the Dana made a custom width.  Watch for the centerline of it - the Street Lynx will just barely fit on either side of the large case.  I also mini-tubbed the car, but you can get away without that.

GT, if you don't mind me asking, did you use the Tremec tranny in your car or something else. With the 373 gearing what is you engine tacking in sixth gear (if you used the tremec) at 70mph.

I have the Tremec and 373, 27" dia tires (285/40 R18 Nitto), engine tacks 1700 RPM at 70.
