Anyone notice at the end, the Charger that crashes into the train had the head rests back in it?  It also only had 3 lugs holding the back wheel on, and there appears to be something under the rear end that might have been used to help pull it?

Maybe they put the head rests back in to help hold the dummies head in position??

looks like i will have to watch it again to night  :popcrn: ;D
good spot (Dave22443)  never noticed the missing wheel lugs before.

Ghoste...what software are you using to rip those screenshots?
They are great quality. Everytime I try to rip screenshots off the DVD it comes out very badly...
It would be great resource to have on the site if we had a selection of great screenshots in decent resolution from the various "Mopar Films"/TV shows" - you know all the usual....

Not only do you get great detail watching this on DVD, but I watched it last night on a wide screen. I noticed the headrests were in the 69 in the train collision...ALSO...anyone notice you can see the "Larry dummy" hitting the steering wheel, and the "Deke dummy" flying over and hitting the windshield post?

I have a free DVD playing program on my laptop, called InterVideo WinDVD 4.  On the play control panel, there is a button for taking screenshots.  All I have to do is press the button.  Really handy.

That's what I use - can't beat Intervideo WinDVD, truely the best in capturing screenshots. I have used it for magazine articles and the pictures always come out brilliant.

I believe they sell the WinDVD software at Best Buy, but it usually comes free with DVD drives when you purchase them out of the box.
Also laptops too, as Ghost mentioned.

Well a quick search of for that Funeral Chapel netted me a result in Escalon, CA, and what do you know, it is in the same place!

So I wonder if they drop her off is in the same town, Escalon, CA. From the shot where they pick her up and leave, you can see that the convienence store where they drop her off is also an IOOF hall.

But also look at the building address of the IOOF Hall/convienence store. Looks like "25520". I google searched that near Escalon, CA and came up with a grocery store on the corner of two main roads in Farmington, CA (18 miles from Escalon).

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=25520+loc:+Escalon,+CA&ll=37.930041,-120.99889&spn=0.006406,0.014355

There's also an IOOF lodge in Farmington.

http://www.caioof.org/IOOF/CA_Lodges.html#F

This looks VERY promising as the grocery store from the google map is on the corner and there are a couple straight roads coming in and going out. Not only that, but the railroad tracks are in the correct place with respect to the grocery store, and there is even an elementery school to the west of the store across the railroad tracks, just like the movie (see the school crossing sign in the movie). So I'm thinking they came into Farmington from the north, parked at the grocery store, and sped off to the west across the railroad tracks.

Here's the best satellite image I could get. Even looks like in the movie!

I grew up in the area you're talking about, Oakdale to be exact.  They shot the movie in and around the surrounding towns to include, Oakdale, Escalon and Farmington.  You are correct on your Escalon assumption but as for not being quite sure if they drop her off in Escalon or Farmington I can tell you 100% for sure that they drop her off in Farmington, I have been in that store (well that was about 30 years ago but I have been in there), and have done a great deal of my young partying and hell raising (in my 68 Charger R/T), all around there.

A little side not, I was out partying with a friend one night in my Charger (just rebuilt the 440), it was a foggy night so we were just out cruising and knocking back a few, when just outside Farmington we see a guy in a challenger parked off the side of the road, we pulled over to say high to a fellow MOPAR man when he challenged me to a race, I agreed (and in my alcohol haze I took the wrong side of the road), I let him give the go sign (which was for him to just take off), and when I caught traction in 1st I shot by him and never saw him again.  Well it turned out he had a 383 and thought his poop didn't stink but he was so embarrased he went around telling everyone that I had this massively built 440, headers, dual points and a holley 750 dubble pumper does not make a massive build  :icon_smile_big:

Cool pics from movie, I haven't seen it before, remember some scene with the Charger getting hit by a train at the end, that's all I remember, I must have been a little kid when I saw that part,

    I gotta rent that movie,

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

AirborneSilva, that's a good story.  So are you able to give Jon the coordinates for the pool hall?

Thanks, and no I can't help him out on any coordinates, I have not lived around there since 1980.

FastbackJon

I was just casually checking out the movie and the map again and I am pretty sure I found the bridge they cross when they are first spotted by the helicopter.

They would be driving south then turning right (west) at the T in the road. Looks like the same area! Check out the film starting at 1:23:27 and see for yourself.

Jon i am sure this charger is the  R/T that they were sitting in at dutton flats , three speaker dash , black windshield wiper blades. my theory  of a forth charger came from the front/ drivers side  shot of the charger as it turned on to the dirt track at a bout [ 1:17:27] (remember Robert Mitcham in thunder road ) the charger in that shot is different :scope:.  as i mentioned in a previous post, from the usual  two 69's & 68. really need a still shot of this from a dvd  because it shows it only for a second or two, but it is different. the two screen shots of that bit  in other topic dmcl screen shot 2  does not show it

good story Airborne :2thumbs: you know the place real well then , thanks for sharing.

terrible one

Anyone notice that when Deke is replacing a tire on the Charger, the reflection of the camera crew can be seen in the drivers door?

THE CHARGER PUNK

a couple of years back a 68 was being sold in pieces (roof, doors rear end, front end etc.) all chooped up for parts and it carried the dmcl paint jon, maybe that was what became of that car,the 69 r/t the surviving car was sold to a used car dealership and was sold to some guy who had a site stating that it was in fact the lone dmcl survivor and it now currently sits in canada about a 2hr drive away from me as it was later sold to a drug addict in my country, if i ever get a chance and the courage(gulp) i will go out there and get the lo-down, but for now we have 2 keep guessing-MATT

FastbackJon

I just found this photo album that has DMCL and Vanishing Point location shots from the person's trip in 2006.

http://community.webshots.com/album/552413926BPGREO

It confirms a bunch of the locations I found on the map, and adds a couple more, the spot where Bill's is...

http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=38.022858,-121.077822&ie=UTF8&z=18&ll=38.022858,-121.077822&spn=0.002138,0.006781&t=k&om=1&iwloc=A

Now if someone can just find that bridge they went over after ramming the cop car into the river...

That guys photo album lists all the towns, have you tried plotting a square around those locations on a California road map and looking for likely suspects?

I'm not so sure that is a 1968 Charger in the pics on the previous thread.

I know IMDB.com and some others have mentioned there were three Chargers used in DMCL, 2 '69 Chargers and a '68.
The only scene that has a possible 1968 Charger is when they meet a police cruiser, and Larry ends up bumping him into a small pond. During that sequence, the front is obviosule a 1968 front grille - but the side marker ligths and rear end is still '69 style. This wasn't a very small film, it did cost a few million to make and the filmmakers were pretty good - so for them to start the production with two '69's and a '68 is a little bit of a stretch.

If you watch the scene again, all that is 1968 about that Charger is the grille. Maybe I missed something, but the marker lights and tail lights ar 1969. It looks like they probably had an accident off camera and had to do a last minute repair - and all that was available at the time was a 1968 grille. So they had to roll the cameras that day with the '68 grille only to switch it back to a 1969 for continuity purposes when a '69 grill became available.

From the evidence of the scene that was shot and the fact that these were Hollywood filmmakers - that looks like the more likely story. I believe DMCL used 3 1969 Chargers for the shoot.

Look at the DVD cover closely, the car on the cover with the roll cage also has 68 doors, the locks areat the very back of the door panel, PLUS there is one scene where you see the tail and there are no backup lights. Seems to me they had a 687 stunt car

pettyfan43

uh guess I should have read more messages before I posted aobut the door locks... Sorry :rotz:
