I thought we had come to the conclusion that the 69 rear view we see in the bumping scene is the 68 car with 69 taillights poorly spliced in.
Anyway, it looks to me to be 69 lights going over the bridge.

Yeah, good point about the '69 not having any quarter panel damage.

That means (assuming we're all correct about three Chargers being used) it had to be the '69 non-R/T car that got towed into the train.

looks that way Mike  , from what i can see ,the  69 XP charger hasn't got  the  charger name plate on
the sail panel , and by the looks of it thats the one that hit the train.

The car you see from the rear in the bumping scene is the '69 because you can see the reverse lights in the valance. Front is obviously a '68 though, so probably a different car. I know I watched the scene where they pass the cop car (which eventually goes through the billboard) and it is interesting how even you would think that was one car, but it switches back and forth a bunch of times between black wiper blades and chrome ones.

Actually, the 1969 R/T car must've had the "Charger" script on the sail panel at least part of the time.
You can see the emblem clearly on that first pic I posted on this page.

I think both the '69s had that "Charger" script showing on the sail panel at one time or another during the chase.  Maybe it just fell off the car before the train hit or something?

FastbackJon

The '69 XP car has no driver's sail panel Charger emblem at the 1:10:38 mark where you see it rounding the corner.

I'm still wondering about the shot at about 1:09:37. Looks like '68 taillights to me, and no '69 side marker lights.

from what i have seen the  69 R/T always had a  charger script on the sail panel. the 69  XP charger with the tall bumper guards never had a charger script on the sail panel  check out   1:07:31 mark XP charger turning in to the orchard and at 1:09:27 . but the car in the shot that hits the truck is a 69 with a script on the sail panel. at 1:17:00 the 69 R/T received the left rear quarter damage from the cop car, at 1:17:27 the charger turned on to a dirt road  it was a 69 with no quarter damage  and  a charger script an the sail panel ,  ??? can't be the R/T because it has a damaged quarter, can't be the XP because in all previous shots it had no sail panel script. (  fourth charger may be) :shruggy:   at the other end of the dirt track it is the 69 R/T with dented left rear  quarter. i still think it was the 69 XP hit the train. at 0:54:04 you can see a interior rear view mirror in the 69 R/T . must of taken it out after that shot , or another R/T  :shruggy: ??? because it is never seen again. yeah i've noticed the wiper blades too chrome 3  piece, then it changes to black 3 piece. also i think i noticed a single piece wiper blade in one shot. or i might be  seeing things.

Maybe we're seeing a fourth (3rd 1969) Charger?

---------------------------------------------

To tell you the truth, I'd be surprised of it was four.

Movies back then didn't generally pile up the tons of prop-cars like they do now.  They only had two Chargers for the entire "Bullitt" chase. "Mad Max" was shot with only one Interceptor, (and even "Road Warrior" only added a second one for the rollover).   Even the infamous "Dukes" TV series started shooting with only three General Lees (and there were two huge jumps scripted in the first episode).

We didn't often see tons of copies of a prop car for a single production until the later 1970s & early 80s.

i agree Mike unlikely. they might of shot the charger turning on to the dirt out of sequence. there is 2 shots of the charger that i am still undecided  a bout . i will have to get it on dvd to give them a closer look.

Just because it has the sail panel script on one side doesn't mean it is on the other. I think at least one scene rounding a corner with the XP car it is missing on the driver's side but present on the passenger side.

Well, I read this thread, and realized I had never seen Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry.  So, I immediatly got into my car, drove to the local movie store, and bought myself a copy.  Took a few screenshots from the movie.

In these, you can see the 68 taillights if you look closely.

And this was such a damn cool shot, it is now my desktop background. ;D

I noticed that thr 69 R/T has a dent in the bottom of the rear valence, about 6 inches to the left of the exhaust tip on the drivers side. The 68,and the 69 non R/T do not. This is evident in the first shot of the rear of the car, just before they stopped at the pool hall.

FastbackJon

Also check out the first shot we see the Charger, under the front valance (which is bent up by the way) there looks to be a loop or something that might be used to tow it into some sort of large locomotive.

i see :scope: what you meen Jon, never noticed that loop thing before  good spot.
but  in one shot they show a XP charger with a straight front valance and a better alined hood . of course the film crew could of fixed this , but why do that after the first shot that shows it damaged ?  the more i watch this film the more  i think there was a fourth charger ( does'nt make sence i know)

Ya know, we might actually be able to shed some light on this subject in June.

DOH stuntman Al Wyatt jr also did some driving in DMCL.  And his father was the primary stunt-coordinator for that movie too.  It's worth a shot; maybe next 'Dukesfest" somebody can try asking Junior about DMCL.

(Al Wyatt senior is the gas station guy in DMCL who gets pulled away when the Charger goes tearing out of the station.  And Al junior played the cop riding shotgun in the partol car that almost runs him over in the aftermath.)

good info Mike ,didn't know that . i would have though he would probably know or at least remember something.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Remember though, that movies are seldom filmed in the order in which the storyline is replayed.  They may may very well have filmed parts of the movie before modifying the car to take advantage of lighting or permission to use certain locations or make use of actors availability.  Any number of reasons.

yeah Goaste i was thinking some thing like that my self  ,  one thought was  they might of damaged a couple chargers off screen or had to shoot a re take  and had to get the chargers body  repaired  quickly .

Anyone have the coordinates for the pool hall?

pm the guy who took the photo of it as it stands today.

Dave22443

Anyone notice at the end, the Charger that crashes into the train had the head rests back in it?  It also only had 3 lugs holding the back wheel on, and there appears to be something under the rear end that might have been used to help pull it?

Maybe they put the head rests back in to help hold the dummies head in position??
