Sun roof car.  :scratchchin: I guess it must have seemed like good idea at the time to screw it up with that piece of plexi glass.

Thats a pretty good copy of the DMCL Charger, and the stripe is correct in dimensions all the way down to the tip. That sun roof crap is another story, whoever did THAT needs to have their head examined ! :brickwall: It must have leaked a lot with all the rust on the roof panel. In looking at the pictures, IT is orange and looks like a GL that BK may have made and the paint blew off at 55 MPH  :smilielol: That car will need a lot of TLC and it makes you wonder what the frame rails & floor pans look like With the rusty roof looking like it does.

V2 is Hemi Orange, doesn't have anything to do with a GL. Same color as EV2 in 1970. E just means that the color first appeared in 1969. Something like this originally:

Cool car though other than the sunroof. With that removed, the right exhaust tips, front seats, and steering wheel it might look like one of the actual cars from the movie that has just been sitting around all this time.

"This was the dedication of the altar, in the day when it was anointed, by the princes of Israel: twelve chargers of silver, twelve silver bowls, twelve spoons of gold..." -- Numbers 7:84 KJV

Ghoste

Still under debate though is whether or not it's a factory sunroof car.  If it is, you'd want to get that aftermarket thing out of the way and put the correct one back in.  In that case it wouldn't look like a DMCL Charger.

How about this one Jon, can you locate the "Fairview Motor Apartments" from the beginning of the film where Deke picks up Larry?

Is this it? Square whiteish building in the center background. I don't have the dvd or any screen caps at the moment to compare.

Got home and checked the DVD.... same place!  You can see the windows and door still in the same location.

This has been one GREAT read guys!!!  I've driven past a number of these places over the years thinking that they looked right, but now I know for sure.

I've been in a funk lately because I may have to sell my DMCL Charger.  Maybe I'll put on a denim shirt and take a drive out there and re-think this a bit.  The central valley is a great place to take a drive and clear your head.....especially in a Charger.

mikepmcs

Welcome aboard!  I hope you can keep your car.  I know where you are coming from so hang in there and enjoy your ride. Hoping things work out for you.

Yep.....I posted on the old forum a number of times and then somehow lost it when they revamped things a couple years ago.  Honestly, I just stumbled on here again and was surprised that it had my e-mail as being registered.

FastbackJon

To go along with the 10 or so locations we've found in this thread above, I'm still looking for this location below. I found a few locations that looked similar but nothing exact. Of course the dirt road could have been removed by now.

Also I spent some time looking for the "NO FISHING FROM BRIDGE" location where the cop car goes in the water, but that was a while back, before all these fancy google street view images. I think I remember a frontage road to the water in the movie like this?

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.957192,-120.861969&ie=UTF8&ll=37.964745,-121.14855&spn=0.02524,0.066047&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&hnear=0x80908ae012c46d17:0x81c118a3ffb87392,%2B37%C2%B0+57%27+14.03%22,+-120%C2%B0+51%27+4.56%22&gl=us&t=m&z=15&layer=c&cbll=37.964745,-121.14855&panoid=umwVs8c3WskSUeOms7accA&cbp=12,82.16,,0,15.85

I also once spent some time looking for the watchtower where the cop sees the Impala. I tried to get the phone number off of the phone he picks up, or at least read what it says, with no luck. Maybe with Blu-Ray?

The dirt siding begins here on Blossom Road at Beaver Slough, just SW of Thornton, CA,:
38°11'37.35"N 121°26'49.38"W and ends at the new bridge (and same old tree) here:  38°12'14.15"N 121°26'48.69"W .

Ghoste

How large an area do these locations represent in total.  More to the point, is it practical to try and arrange a DMCL fan cruise through the region in the next year or two or is this one of those things best explored solo?

jwramc

Everything is located within an hour of the center of Linden, with 75% of it within 15 minutes. The outer most spots are (eastward) Sonora, CA for Mary's apt, Save Mart and the hostage house, then Tracy, CA (southwest) for the drawbridge, and Thornton, CA (northwest) for the 'good sailor' dunk.

The rest is in and around Linden, Clements and Farmingdale.

To tour the whole list in the order they appear in the film would take days. But planned out well, starting out in Sonora, then to Farmingdale, north into Linden, northeast toward Rancho Calaveras, northwest to Clements, west to Thornton, south to Stockton (to see the train, if still in storage) then finally Tracy... it can be done in a long day.

The attached pic shows the largest cluster of locations in Linden.
John

Ghoste

Easily do-able for a days worth of sightseeing then.

FastbackJon

I have a different location down as the possible Old 99 Junction Roadblock than what I see in the map two posts up... I could be wrong though. But it does look quite a bit less built up than the one on your map. And the road curve seems closer too.
