Although I could do without the motorhome/satanist flick I'll still end up buying the Blu ray.

I sincerely doubt it.  It would be nice but my bet is that it'll just be the last version they released encoded for blu ray and put into a nice bllue plastic box so suckers like me will buy it.  I think they'll try and pass off the fact that its paired with the other stalwart of 70's b-movie low budget film making will be touted as the exciting "extra".  I hope I'm wrong though.

I have never seen anything in Blu-ray, I hear it looks great. Can you play regular movie Dvds on it or do you need to re buy all of your Dvds  so you can play them on it ?

Fred

I've got a Panasonic bluray recorder. It plays blurays as well as dvd's. Plus it has twin tuners and hard drive so I can record two movies (or whatever) at the same time while watching a third.
It does need to be a recorder though, not just a player.

We have a Sony Blu Ray and it does not record but it can play regular dvd as well.

Fred

Hang on. I've got it sorted now......... The bluray players can play dvd's but the dvd players can't play bluray.

You can also play bluray on a playstation 3. :Twocents:

Release date might be June 4th instead of May 28th... still soon!

Yes, DVD players are not forward-compatible with blu-ray discs but blu-ray players are backwards-compatible with DVD discs.

The blu-ray uses blue laser as opposed to the standard red laser. The blue laser is smaller and thus we can fit and read more on a blu-ray disc than we could read with a larger red laser. So if we can fit more information on a blu-ray disc, and the movie is the same length, that means a higher quality/resolution movie. Your blu-ray movies are 1080p (that many horizontal lines), whereas DVDs are 480p lines, so much better resolution.

Getting back on topic, it will be interesting to see how the color of the Charger comes out on the blu-ray. If it's more of a banana yellow, or more of the accurate bright-greenish yellow. That GY3 is a difficult color to photograph accurately.

Blu-Rays can look great but they are dependent on the source material.  For example the "Vanishing Point" Blu-Ray isn't a dramatic improvement over the DVD's image quality because the source film isn't great.  But other stuff has a much more dramatic improvement.  It depends on a bunch of factors.

Part of the reason Blu-Rays have taken off is because of newer TVs.  When you move from a small glass screen TV to a big new HD flat one, it takes a higher-resolution image quality just to maintain the same level of clarity.  DVDs still look decent on a big HD wide screen but Blu-Rays look better.

Fred

When we upgraded from our glass TV to an LCD/LED flat screen I couldn't believe the improvment of the dvd's we previously watched on the old TV.
It was a 100% improvement. I couldn't imagine that bluray could be even better.

In Toys 'R Us today for baby stuff and happened over to the car section...

Much to my surprise I spotted and purchased a hotwheels-sized DMCL Charger! Only one on the rack and only about $6.
