Anyone else ever see a charger with that line down the side?

That door ding protection stuff that's glued to the side? Yeah, but like curb feelers and dual windshield wiper's it's just not very common anymore.

Ok. I have NEVER seen a charger with it before and when I first spotted this car for sale something seemed off about it until I noticed the line down the side.  :scratchchin:

I've wondered if it would help hide an imperfect body line.

Some of those body side moldings were dealer installed with screw holes....not just double sided tape IIRC :scratchchin:

Yes, I have seen 1970 Chargers with the dent protective strips down the sides.  My 1970 Coronet 440 2dr ht originally had them, but was removed before I bought it.  Unfortunately, it was held on by pop rivets and clips down the entire length of the car on both sides, so now I have the holes remaining where the strips used to be.  :eek2:

Mine had that too, looks identical except it stops at the rear of the front wheel opening. I often wondered if it was dealer installed. It was pop riveted also.

Was very common back in the 70,s even over here.

My 69 Charger had that same crappy moulding riveted on also.

Looks like a pre-69 radiator but it does look like Mopar.

You can tell it's mopar, has the logo on the top.

As for the other stuff, it's by "Make an offer". Trying to figure out what to offer on the '70

It isn't the correct air cleaner assembly for a 1970, either.

In our area there was a guy with a large box van that made his rounds to every dealership.  He would install side moldings on new and used like the 70 in question.    He also pinstriped, whitewalled tires, installed hubcaps, installed am/fm radios, etc.

Looking back, I'll bet he did ok.

The 1970 Challenger RT/SE I owned back in the day while in High School had the body side moldings from the factory.  (This Challenger had every option except for sun roof and anything on the deck lid, as in no rear spoiler or luggage rack)...it may have been a Chrysler Executive car.  Looked really good as it followed the side body line and broke up the color of my triple black Challenger.  Not really that big a deal back in the day, and it also helped to protect the paint.

I even had them on one of my '66 Chargers, again following the body line (lower than the Challenger)...again, they were not that big a deal back in the day as many cars had them.  However, I have seem more than a couple of second generation Charger with the molding, but I don't care for the look of them on the second generation Charger, as they look "tacked on".  Just my two cents......

I think Pocket Thunder's 69 has the side moldings. I could have sworn that they were from the factory too.

Can't find a good pic of it atm.

Well the guy is totally ignoring the offer I made. I told him I don't like making blind offers and wanted to know what he thought it was worth. He said just make an offer (wouldn't give me any details about engine condition, rust, interior, etc) so I made a blind offer of $10,000 based upon the one picture. He's ignored me even thought he's responding to other people.

There was a guy here in Oregon with an orange '69 that had that, he said it was a dealer install option and he didn't take it off because it was technically "original" for his car.

Kinda looks weird to me.  His is the only one I've ever seen in person that had it.

Hard Charger

my challenger had those side moldings. they were screwed on. I saved them after the restoration. they are a dealer installed item.

the radiator looks like a stock 22" like in my 68.

If it were a 440,  yes.

But, it's a 383...

The pad with the numbers on it is over by the distributor. :Twocents:
