I know many of you will turn your noses up at this but I say HA! ;)

With the desire to change up my ride now & then...V21 last year now J45  :o  Some are asking when the sun roof is coming  :slap:

Pretty nerve wracking to drill out the hood.  Had to do a little fiddling with the pins themselves to get them to line up.  Very happy how it turned out  :2thumbs:

Better pics to follow when I get her out of the garage

Yeah I hear ya. I did mine purely for the look though.

Every car is different so there is really no clear cut way to put the pins in. I had to do some fandangery on my drivers side fender to get the pin where I wanted it. (Enlarged fender bolt holes) The holes themselves are fairly large (7/8-1") and that side was too close to the hood bumper reinforcement plate on the hood.

How to do it right the first time?
1. Install pins in the correct place on the fender / radiator support.
2. Test that the hood frame opening clears the pins so that the hood will rest on the pins.
3. Adjust pins as needed.
4. Allow the hood to drop onto the pins from an inch or so several times until a noticeable bump is seen on the top or outside of the hood on both sides.
5. drill your holes in the center of the dimples from the underside (bumps from the topside) as large as the hole in the middle of the scuff rings is.
6. Close hood & set the scuff rings in place, mark the 4 mounting holes on each scuff ring & drill for the size screws supplied.
7. After scuff rings are mounted, all that is left is to mount the lanyard stationary ends.

A couple more points about hood pins...
1) A step bit works great
2) Don't push too hard, let the bit do the work.
3) We need a poll for the plates. X or + pattern?
Love the car, shes a beaut. Some orange poking through at the back of the hood.  :scope:

It is a good combo isn't it?  Makes you wonder why more weren't ordered that way.

Yes a step drill bit is what I used. The holes measure 7/8". Originally these holes don't look like they were drilled... More like stamped through (looking at the originally equipped cars)

The orientation of the plate screws was copied from 2 original J45 cars.

You're right about the paint break line for the V21. The original bulletin calls for this.  In hindsight this might have been an area to overlook. I might just touch up the rear of the hood one day if it really bothers me.  Right now all is right with the world!

bill440rt

I thought I recall seeing that tape line break-off on the hood on that bulletin as well.
The V21 on my '69 is done in a similar fashion. The tape line is about halfway along the back edge of the hood.

Chris, if you ever wanted it taken care of you know where to go.  :icon_smile_wink:
