Last night's test drive

My brother and I were working on the Charger last night trying to solve a leaky trans and a nasty vibration.  The pan has some sort of weird sealing issue and the rear mount was toast.  It took us a while to replace the destroyed mount and to get the leaky transmission pan to slow down, and before we knew it, it was 1:30am.  Since you can't do all that work without a test drive, we thought we would take her out for a spin over to a neighboring town (gas is much cheaper there).

The car ran great...most all of the vibration is gone, and the changes we made to the carb a few weeks ago really made a difference.  She's running as well as a big block could run at 8,000'.  This is the longest trip I have made since getting the car all put together again, and it was great.

The cool part is, when we got to the neighboring town, there was a cop sitting there at the gas station.  I never know what to expect in these circumstances, as the Charger has a 3" exhaust and fairly loud mufflers.  As soon as we pulled in, he whipped his cruiser around to come check us out.  He was really interested in the Charger.  He wanted to know all about it and asked if I minded if he checked it out.  He just kept saying "Man, this is nice car."  :icon_smile_big:  We were talking about how fast it can go, and we told him we weren't sure the speedometer was accurate, so he offered to drive outside of town for us and clock us on his radar gun.  He said "Just don't go over 110" :icon_smile_approve:   We stopped after our drive by, and he gave us the speed information and complimented us again on our ride. She is running about 56mph when she reads 65mph, so we will have to get that fixed.  Then, when he drove back out of sight, we promptly ran her up to 110 :icon_smile_wink:

Overall, it was a cool ride...it felt good to finally have her on the road completely legal and know about the speed thing.  Now...I just need to figure out how to make more power at this altitude.  I want to be able to roast those 275-60-R15's out back :yesnod:
