I noticed the lifters on my 400 engine were different from my 440 ones. does anyone know if 383 lifters are the same as 400? thanks

all BB lifters are the same, BUT SBs lifters fit on them ( not the other way around however ) Usually you should find lifters with high groove on BBs ( 976s ) and lifters with lower oil groove on SBs ( 2011s ). FOR WHATEVER REASON I can't tell, Had to use 2011s on my 400 because they never got oil filled... maybe higher lobe on cam making the oil groove leave the lifter bore using the 976s ?, sooo more ppl could had to make that too. Or simply because local stock on parts dealers, since they fit.

weird because I'm using crower 282 cam which seems to be similar lobes ( by lift specs ) than the MP 280 cam which gets the 976s kind on package.

usually aftermarket and performance valve train components manufacturers offers for BBs the 2011s lifter kinds &/OR the ones with WIDER groove, but still on 2011s height
