I don't agree with this, but I'm sure it will happen.

After I buy these items for collectible purposes only I intend to celebrate my good fortune at finding such nice collectible items by hiring and escort for $200.00 and hour for some sophisticated conversation and good company.

I have to say though - 400 bucks seems like a deal if you're the type of person who can stomach rebodying a car.  I had a guy in Tampa try and sell me the tags from a COMPLETELY rotted '68 R/T for 2 grand.

That said - I don't see this as any different than Lee 1 :)

Is it considered a rebody if you buy the full Weldthru Challenger body from classic industries?

Ghoste

If it has the tags to a different car then yes, if its titled as a kit car (salvage, homebuilt, whatever) then I would say no.  :Twocents:

There was a guy here that got accused or rebodying a car. There was no front or rear to the car. No engine, no tranny. No fender tag. Took the entire front and rear end off a parts car and put them on his car. So the trunk matched the rad support but the not the VIN that was on the dash.

Can't remember the full story but it finally took him digging through boxes of his parent's stuff to find an old registration slip proving he owned the car when he was a kid (registration matched the VIN on the dash) for some people to change their minds. Others still claimed he just swapped the dash with the VIN into the "parts car".

I don't recall that one.  (although I'm sure I had disparaging comments in it)

All these problems don't need to happen.    The laws/policies are outdated.  They are rooted in an era when people didn't take decades-old destroyed cars and rebuild them.  There didn't used to be reproductions of production cars.  And VIN numbers only mattered to car thieves.

The laws need to be updated to recognize the current situation.  Today VINs are crucial for collectible value.  People will fix ANY amount of body damage.  The entire concept of a "totaled" vehicle needs to be re-thought.  And decades-old vehicles are basically being put back into limited production, albeit one piece at a time.  A reproduction of an old OEM unibody is not the same thing as a custom built go-kart.

We also need some consistency across the states.

.... And why are they not in jail?

For?

This is not illegal to own.
Some people might purchase the items and just hang on to them so another person cannot use them on another car.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

Yep that's the one.  The floors/rails were the worst I've ever seen (especially in the trunk area where there's like nothing left) and even the car's shell was rotted in lots of places.   Was an original silver/black '68 R/T which are a really beautiful combo on that car - but without the numbers engine/tranny not worth taking on.

As you can see from the pics - when I walked up on the car at first glance I was like 'ooooh!' but then I went around behind it and was more like 'ewwwwww'

Was a really nice dude but I don't think he understood that selling the car for one price or just the tags for a lesser price was shady.

Yea I talked to him on the phone a few times and he was a nice gentalman from the service. I was going to buy the grille off then he started talking about just selling it to me as a whole car since the grille was really the only valuable part on the car. The whole ideal started getting too complicated and we just faded out on the subject. I might've had I been local.
