reverse will not engage when shifter is switched into the reverse position.  engine gets revved to 3000 rpm and the vehicle will move slightly backwards, but not fully engage.

what i did:  1) adjusted band appropriately 2) replaced rear servo seal and tested the rear servo for proper seal 3) completely dismantled and cleaned the valve body.

causes: I think its the front clutch assembly (have yet to disassemble the transmission and check), any thoughts?

If the front clutch was at fault I would expect to see some sort of problem with 3rd gear also.

Have you tried air checking the front clutch?
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

no i have not.  I forgot to mention that 1st, and 2nd engaged fine, never did try to get the thing up to speed and let drive (direct) actually engage.

when my tranny went in February, I also lost reverse and 3rd gears.  I had to have mine rebuilt because the sprag was destroyed, it cost me $500 to have it totally rebuilt.
when racing deals fall apart.....you go home, like me.

Did you run it long enuf so the fluid got to all the vaives. Seems like the rev valve is the last one to get pressure

RD

yeah sure did.  engine operating temperature, ran through all the gears.  I believe its the front clutch or the sprag that has failed.  I have yet to tear it apart though  :icon_smile_wink:

Sprag? If first gear works OK the sprag isn't bad.
