After 12 months the restoration of my 67 Charger is complete.  Car went in with 78 400 in need of repair.  Decided to go with restomod for HP and handling.  Car has 6.4L, 6 speed, RMS suspension, Wilwood brakes, vintage air but otherwise tried to retain the original look where possible.  Generally restored original parts along with a few NOS parts (most notably the taillights).  Big exception were the tires which had to be at least 17" due to the brakes.  Restored gauge cluster by instrument specialties.  Went with original 4 speed shifter purchased from a member here.

Car is at NY auto show 4/3-4/12 along with a partially complete 69 Charger with same setup (engine, trans, suspension, brakes) for the most part except for custom interior, shaved door handles, paint TBD.

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Totally understand and agree with your point of view.  Retained the original interior wherever possible even going with a 4 speed shifter for the 6 speed to preserve the original look

Thank you for the feedback.

I did not use AA1 for the paint.  I originally was going to go with PP1 and then changed my mind and wanted to go with a light color with a small amount of metallic. I saw few 66/67s and liked the light silver color - neither were AA1. Then worked with the restoration shop on the exact color picking from four spray cards.  I picked it out many months ago and can't remember what is was exactly.  I will share the color after my next visit to the shop.

WOW!!! That is beautiful! I agree it is the best interior and dash to go in a car...absolutely stunning!

Car with model at the NY show.  Also video link of the restoration added.  It is a little long but it includes all phases of the restoration and the first minute is an original ad for the car from 1966.
