It was reading these behind the scenes articles that inspired me to build a charger from a stripped rusty shell  :popcrn:

everyone hates these cars so why do people go see the movie?  :shruggy:  people on facebook are making fun of the charger because it has big rims.  :shruggy:

I suppose I have to start watching Craigslist Africa for that 3rd Gen to come up for sale?  :icon_smile_big:

Who is "everyone" that hates them?

The box office earnings of these movies have gotten absolutely huge.  I mean like Star Wars or Batman huge.

They're not trying to be realistic.  They are trying to be over-the-top & appeal to the average moviegoer.  They are doing a really good job at what they are trying to do.

JB400

Got to give the producers credit.   The franchise doesn't seem to be a rewrite of a rewrite of a rewrite.  It's pretty much an original series.

Except that first one - which is an almost direct copy of Point Break
[ŌŌ]ƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖ[ŌŌ] = 68
[ŌŌ][ƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖ][ƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖ][ŌŌ] = 69
(ŌŌ)[ƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗ](ŌŌ) = 70

Mike DC

The 1st one was a Point Break remake.

The 2nd one was a Miami Vice episode.

The 3rd one was a bad 1950s teenage drive-in.

It started getting more interesting with the 4th one.

By the 5th one it had become more like a car-heavy version of Ocean's 11.

Good breakdown and comparison...

Went and watched this movie last night and I will have to admit going in I didn't expect it too be that good, well I was wrong!! It was awesome!!! Of course the action was way over the top but it was very entertaining to watch and kept you on the edge of your seat the entire length of the movie. Not wanting to spoil anything but they did an awesome tribute to Paul Walker at the end and almost everyone I saw had a tear or two in their eye walking out of the theater. It was very tasteful and sad but it was a nice sendoff for his character. Was glad to see a few nice mopars in the movie and you could clearly see the pistol grip's in several shots and one good shot of a tic toc tach. Way cool to see some old school mopars still on the big screen and looking so awesome too!!!

Somebody in my theatre got mad because the roadrunner had 20inch rims.....they did show the pistol grip in that scene very nice.

Just 6T9 CHGR

I saw it yesterday in an IMAX theatre.....well worth the extra price of a ticket.  great movie with a heavy Mopar influence.

Excellent tribute to Paul Walker at the end as well.  Very heartfelt.  RIP

Well i'm not a fan of the big rim's but they looked good on that road runner!!!! I am not a big fan of the 72-74 round taillights but the cuda was sharp too!! Some thing's might not be my personal taste but if it's nicely done I can't help but like it!!  :yesnod:

I agree 100%, I was expecting a let down, because to me starting with FF4, I think the series got better with each movie... and it continued, I think this was the best so far. I will admit, I was trying to watch out for scenes with Paul's brothers. I read somewhere they did shoot 80% of the movie before he passed. Especially the last 30 minutes or so, they were creative in not really showing his face with lighting and camera angles and all that, but there is a couple of CGI shots that were pretty obvious. I thought It was a nice ending to the movie also. Fast 8 is in the works already, a guy locally has built a Chopper for the movie, and Vin Diesel said in an interview a week or two ago, the whole point of adding Kurt Russell to the cast in this movie, is for a storyline with him in the next movie that takes place in New York.

wow, Jaak that should be interesting, but I hope they don't plan to top this one I think they should somehow reboot it......

Mike DC

They wont' reboot it if they're smart.  Not yet.

The cast is pretty much the only thing holding all these movies together.  They've changed directors, locations, producers, cars . . . even the target audience has changed to some extent.

Stegs

i took my wife to see the movie saturday night

I loved the movie, very funny in parts, very sad in others

I loved the tribute to paul at the end

I did enjoy the heavy mopar presence in the movie, starts out with a cuda, then a couple different roadrunners, of course the 70 charger and then end with a 68 charger

i sported my mopar hat at the movie! i was there to see the cars!

Some of the actors have already signed contracts to do more sequels.  Lucas Black is one of them...

I pre-paid for IMAX for Sat. nite but the date ran late so I got hosed on that deal.   Maybe try again next week ... for a later show   :shruggy:

I'm not an F&F fan, I've seen parts of the first one. I went with my girlfriend and made sure to point out all the mopars. I was hoping for a better interior shot of the '70 Runner 4 speed. How could you not seize that opportunity to really show off that shifter? Anyway, I got bored and kicked back and went to sleep for a bit. I needed to rest up  ;) Anyway, I don't think I've ever seen so many people walk out of a movie before.

Since I can't rewind. I was sure the Charger in the plane was a '70 one minute, then a '68 the next???
WANTED: NOS or excellent condition 72-74 4 speed shifter boot for bench or centre armrest car, part number 3467755. It's a rubber boot that looks like it's sewn up leather.

These flicks aren't into old cars for the history.  They really only want "classic" cars if the car still looks cool to modern eyes.

Most/all of the prop-cars would have been automatic anyway.  Even if they did show a pistol-grip shifter it might well have been a dummy-job on an automatic car.

1974dodgecharger

actually a lot of the interior shots the interior was not even done.....in a lot of the cars only the exterior body.  The cuda was no interior at all.......

I'm a big fan of this series, and I have been since the beginning, however I have to say that this latest installment bored me to tears.  Now, I'm not into gonzo fight extravaganzas, and I don't care about Rhonda Rousey, UFC, Dwayne Johnson, fake-wrestling or glorific Hollywood gun battles and Michael Bay sized explosions which, unfortunately, seems to be the focus of this movie as opposed to the cars and the street racing culture/fantasy that gave birth to the franchise.

I mean where were the cars?  Sure, there were the token car chases and the gimmicky off-road nonsense, but the spirit of the movie, the cars, were more like an afterthought.  I found myself hoping that a score of Ricers would show up with fart cans, neon paint jobs and under-car lighting just to crash the quasi-global terrorist plot nonsense and "steer" the movie back onto the path of making a movie about.......CARS and the Fast & the Furious, instead of an Expendables rip-off replete with lame one-liners and tough guy faces galore.

Just like everyone else though, I absolutely LOVED the Mopar presence in the movie.  Anyone who says Fast & the Furious is about fart cans and Ricers clearly isn't paying attention.  The tribute to Paul towards the end of the movie was well done.  I wish they had replicated the first Charger and Supra that Dominic and Brian faced off with in the original movie, but I get that the white Supra and the silver Charger were done to say farewell to Paul Walker; I loved how the Supra goes left and drives off into the horizon and into the beyond.

In any case, I'm glad that some of you enjoyed the movie.  If anyone asks me, I'll keep with my original recommendations of which ones to watch: parts one, four and three, and in that order.  IMO they had the proper mix of car action and the loose semblance of a plot/story...

You wouldn't even rank #5 as one of the better ones?  That's one of my favorites.

F&F still heavily features car action, but IMO the franchise simply isn't a street racing show anymore.  For better or worse it has outgrown it.  The next memorable street racer movie that Hollywood produces is unlikely to be part of the F&F series.

tcs69rt

Yes, they used shells, not Chargers with a vin #. They filmed on my friends ranch in Colorado. I put these pics on another F & F post on the Charger Discussion board, thanks! TC

One of my favorites too, but that is really the type of movies I like.... get a crew, pull a job. Movies like Italian Job, Oceans 11, etc.

They took off the '70 Front bumper and there were no tail lights. Maybe that what's threw it off?  :shruggy:

I was positive the Cuda was shown to be a standard because I swear the interior shot of the Roadrunner was used for the Cuda?  :shruggy:

Good car movie but one that requires you to suspend belief for 2 hours 20
As I'm in Abu Dhabi at the moment, I liked the Etihad Towers sequence, so did the locals in the cinema, quite a few Emiratis in their full dishdash gear watching it and enjoying seeing their own city and buildings up on the big screen, neat really  :2thumbs:
Good tribute to PW as well

The off-road Chargers still had the stock front bumper.  It was fiberglass, painted black, with no lower valence, no walrus teeth, no real grille, and the truck chassis had a tubular pushbar in front of it.  But the 1970 bumper was there.
