It's the same creator/director as the originals.

They were a few weeks away from shooting this movie back in 2001.  It would have been Mad Max#4 with Mel Gibson starring.  But then 9/11 and a bunch of other factors started piling up to delay it.  Eventually Mel dropped out of the project.  They decided to recast Max & abandon the old continuity.

Yes this movie has been in the works since 1986 and they filmed not one movie but three, they started filming the first one in 2012 I believe in Africa.

That's strange, signing him for 3 more movies now.  Not back when he first signed on, and not after they see the success of the first one either.  It probably means they're getting more optimistic about the movie now that they've seen some of it.

Your movie full of Win is coming!

Looking forward to that

Well, that too.

But Mel chose to walk away from this project years ago.  It wasn't a case of him getting dropped from it.

Not that it matters.  If they started developing this project recently they probably wouldn't have wanted him in the lead anymore.

IMO they should have approached Mel about playing the bad guy this time.  He might have actually been willing to do it and it suits his image these days.
