My first plan was to buy one of Jamie Passon's overdrive Hemi 4 speed boxes but I couldn't wait any longer, I have a short window of time to get the motor back in the car and running so I can move on to the final paint job in the summer.   So plan B was to buy his regular hemi 4 speed transmission, I heard many good things about his work so it was an easy decision.

Well, it showed up today, and I have to say the packaging was a work of art. Kudos to them, nice wood frame with screws, and the transmission bolted down. The pics speak for themselves.  Now have to decide if I want to run the ball shifter or the pistol grip  :scratchchin:

Either way, im not too confident on the slip in style, both handles I have are that type, was thinking of drilling them out for bolts?  :shruggy:

I've always been a fan of the ball shifters. Good luck with

Me too.  Or the Tee handle, which today would be retro aftermarket.

On my stick car, I replaced the shifter with a Comp Super Shifter and modified the original shifter to bolt on.  "Original" enthusiasts are probably sick about my action, but I'd do it again for the better shifter and retaining the console.

If you are only worried about the handle being secure to the shifter, the slip in is fine IMO.

Yea Im not really sure which shifter I want to go with, I love the look of both levers in the console so I may go back and forth. I did remember reading somewhere that the mechanism is slightly different for 70, in regards to the throw, not sure if thats true, but I remember reading about the handle hitting the dash with the pistol grip when used with the 69 mechanism?  :shruggy:  If that is true, then it may force my hand to use the ball one only until later down the road when I get another mechanism for the pistol grip.

I was messing around with it last night, and the mechanism I got was rebuilt, everything appearing new. The slip in part seems very tight into the mechanism, I didnt want to force it, but should it just slip in? It certaintly didnt feel that way.

I plan on racing this car occasionally at the track and I would like the mechanism to be as solid as possible which is why I was thinking about drilling it through for bolts, im not concerned with originality as my car was a 318 auto before.

I felt like a kid playing with the shifter last night, but its given me new motivation to keep cranking away!
