I bought the Charger back in '97 to restore back to what I had new in '68.  It's been a great ride all these years and has certainly fulfilled my original expectations of renewed youthful spirit when on the road with it.  But, there are only so many car shows and cruises that you can participate in before it all starts getting old.  I've come to the realization recently that my obsession with this CAR has gotten in the way of many other things that I want to accomplish in my life.  Not big things, I'm happy with my overall achievements, but just stuff I should have been doing on the house and acreage. Time is catching up with me and there are other things that I want to get done.  I guess all I'm saying here is that I will most likely sell it after this upcoming season.  I will stick around here though........

Any idea on a price range?   Depending on the size of your land a new or newer tractor can be fun.

I'm with you.

I'll be drastically reducing the fleet soon.

It's time to do other things before it's too late to do other things.

I think a lot of us think about the same thing. Me included
I want to sell my C500 for similar reasons. I've had it for almost 35 years. I have fixed it and driven it. I have shown it and fed it. And I know I will miss it.
If it was a pet I would keep it till It passed away.
I have been in the collecting/fixing part of this for many years and don't see myself as one of those that will end up with a mini museum for my kids to deal with.
I am trying to work my way back out of too many possessions and projects.
At this point having two cool cars is better than three.
When I considered building more space for the cars I stopped for a breath of practical thinking.

I envy you guys that have had your cars long enough for the " kick" to have gone away

I had marriage /kids / house etc. since I was 20  never had any spare cash , now kids grown, wife gone . finally got the cars I've always wanted .

If trying to relive your past, no matter how the current turns out, the past will always be better, probably because you didn't know any better or didn't care at the time, now you get concerned when a beat up or dented car pulls up next to you.

I'm a little worried that my car won't live up to its memories, I know I have no intention to ever drive it like I used to, but I can do everything I used to in my newer cars and its a lot more comfy than the old car is.  Unlike the original posters, I haven't had the opportunity to drive my charger anywhere for over 20 years, it is finally getting to the point where I should start pulling it out and firing it up regularly again and eventually go to a few local meets or shows.  Don't plan on being a show junky though, its good but it isn't  what I would call a show winner, just  a nice rebuilt driver.

However, like the others I'm at a stage in my life where I realize I can't maintain or keep up with all the projects I already have, and have to divest myself of a couple at least.  While I'm not quite ready to sell the charger, I am getting rid of at least one car, and possibly another.  Just finished repainting the Miata this afternoon, it'll go first, I think I am going to have problems getting rid of the 2nd car, I'd have to drive it at least a couple months after getting it ready just to let go of it.  If I get it driving again then at least I can get the charger out of the garage again.

sometimes I think it was more fun and exciting working on the charger. I have been driving it around now for about 3 years and now is no big deal anymore. But still cannot part with it either. After all no matter what car you have its just a car,

Wise words indeed!

Some Folks have done FIFTY years of Mopar-ing, in the same car.
Others have collected a Barn full of rare Mopars that will never be driven or restored.
Once the Mopar-Market gets flooded with cars 'in the near future', there will be plenty to go round.
Prices will fall and wannabees will be happy with their first Dream Mopar...

My wife says ONE Mopar is ONE too many???
That's why I got three to really make her happy... :2thumbs:

I wish you luck and that you find what you're looking for.  We leave so many things undone, unfinished in our lives that sometimes we have to make hard choices.

Personally, and I know this sounds stupid, but this machine is more than just an amalgam of steel, plastic and cheap vinyl to me.  This vehicle has literally been the transportation of my journey through life.  It was there with me for so many exciting firsts and heartbreaking lasts that I can't imagine a memory without it.  I think of it as an extension of my family and saying goodbye to it would be no different than watching relatives and other loved ones disappear from my life again.  The Charger is blood, to me...

I understand what you are saying and that is a good place to be.  For me, I think I will hang on to the one have until I can't.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

I've been at it for 38 years now but its always been with one car at a time and never financially secure enough to support the fleet I always wanted.  At the point now where I a collection is no longer my dream but I still fear the day when I cant drive the one I have.  So I pour money into it that I shouldn't and soldier on.  I understand where you're coming from RECHRGD and I hope you enjoy the last season the best.

Guys, I was in the same rut, and then changed my focus with the car(s).   6 years I got introduced to the Hot Rod Power Tour, and it put some excitement back into the car thing.   Luckily, I hang out with some great guys, so it doesn't stop at the Power Tour.  Hanging around with people that are car nuts, have that bond that car guys need.  We try and meet at different shows throughout the year.   And, they all have different cars, so that are all open shows.   Once I stepped out of all Mopar shows, I'm excited to be back into the car world.  Hearing the same crap about what is wrong with my car at all Mopar shows, got OLD real quick!!!

As you get older, priorities, wants, needs, change, I get it.   If you feel that at some point your going to regret selling the car, stash it away for 3/5/10 years, concentrate on what you need to, and then the car is there for when you have the time.     We all know people that have said "I never should have sold my car".
My name is Mike and I'm a Moparholic!

Having turned 45 a month ago, I share many of the same thoughts mentioned in this thread. Not that I want to get rid of my cars but life has a way of changing when you're not paying attention. Then you stop and think for a minute and some thoughts creep in that you never thought would. I've owned my SE since 1987, I was just about to turn 17 years old then and the car meant everything to me. The thought of not owning it is a bit "scary". But no matter what our cars mean to us, we are only caretakers of them. Nothing more. They'll all outlive us if taken care of.

For me at least, unless I "need" the money and I can still take care of them, I see no reason to let them go right now.

But, getting old is no fun...

This is well said and I agree. Diversify. Before you sell, try other things like all-makes events, Hot August Nights, Saturday night drags, a week of commuting to work, poker runs, the Power Cruise, a driving vacation, an autocross, find an old drive-in that still operates, etc.  There are a lot of other things out there that bring back that feeling of adventure and excitement.

I felt the same way......... but it was about the bike, not the car. got rid of it. miss it, but am too busy to fret it. I can't wait till show season starts. Swap meets, cruises, and just taking the car for a drive. And this year will be the year for the 69 cougar to get its paint. I will be 59 this year. I figure I have 3 1/2 years left until I can take the car to lunch on a Wednesday with the club here that doesn't have to work any more.

Mike, your list just about sums up everything that I've done over the years.  It's been great, but at 67 I'm just at a different place in life and not a bad one......

My question would be:  If the car is paid for, why can't you just go do other things and get to new adventures, while having the car for a night cruise for ice cream? you can do both. its not like you have to get down to 1 vehicle or anything.

Nvrbdn, it's not out of financial need.  But at my age I don't need to be worried about damage or theft of a car any more.  Working on it isn't fun to me any more.  My shop has been full of everything Charger related to the point of not being able to do anything in there that isn't automotive in nature.  I've been having a ball on a new ATV lately and am discovering things I want to do on the property while I still can.  A lot of stuff in my head that I want to do yet.  The Charger has been great friend, but it's time has come to an end.  The years go by like months at this age.....

Definitely sounds like it's time for new adventures.   Load up that atv and start exploring the countryside, old ghost towns etc etc.
Always new places to go and things to see.   Nothing to regret because you've had your dream car.     :Twocents:

I too am in the same boat, the Charger never gets driven and has barely been for the last twenty years. The Challenger, which I am currently working on putting back to a decent driver, is basically the same....

Working on them is still fun but at 43 it isn't any easier to get around them for repair and upkeep

I think that after many years of reflection, I am more in love with the idea of having two of the most awesome Mopars ever made than actually being in love with them.

I suspect it's the same for a few on here as well

Reading this thread I can't really relate, then again I'm 25.
A 68 charger should be the last thing you sell and not the first.
Especially if its not even a money thing. Maybe take it for a cruise or drive before you make the final decision.
