When you guys replace a gas tank, do you buy new fuel lines too?

  I didn't, but I am having second thoughts.  Are they a pain to replace, and where do you buy them. Thanks  :cheers:

What isn't a pain to replace on these things?

I would replace them, but that's just me. You can blow them out but if there's any corrosion, air isn't going to move it.

A good question.---If an old fuel line has rusting on the inside I would replace it. Their is always the possibility of rusty flakes coming forward over time or (more important) a leak from rusting through.

It takes oxygen to make rust. Old lines don't see much of that on the inside.  When I was working on my 69 coronet (sitting for 35 years) I first put an air blast through the line and got liquid out. It was a light brown residue of the old gas. I added carb cleaner to the lines until the spray came clean. Also the outside of the lines showed no pitting type of rust.

In my case a filter before the carbs gives me peace of mind.  A discoloration in the carb doesn't necessarily tell what it is or where it came from.

Also the fuel we buy is not handled under sterile  conditions.

  Really not that hard to replace them. They clip in like brake lines, if you have a return line it clips to the 3/8 line from the tank to pump. Ethanol fuels are playing hell with older cars in many areas as it's hygroscopic and absorbs water in the mix. (Like Dot 3/4 brake fluid.)  Stainless may be better in the long run if the car tends to sit unused for months. I'll be changing lines soon myself, looks like 120.00 and 26.00 shipping on eBay for regular steel 3/8 with 1/4 return and 20-30 bucks for new clips.

I ordered stainless tank, stainless fuel and brake lines.  With todays bad fuel (and it's gonna get worse) I didn't hesitate to order all stainless.   :Twocents:

I went with "Right stuff" lines, just the steel.  I could see how someone might consider it a pain to put in, especially if your doing it on your back in the garage like I did. But honestly once you get it threw the front cross member, its just push in the clips .

replace it all....don't rely on the old crap....I tried to go cheap, but I eventually bought everything new.
