Hello gang. I bought a different bumper and bumper guards for my 74 Charger.  How hard is it to remove the current bumper and guards and put a new one on? Or should I pay a professional at a business $260 for their four hours of labor to do it? Thanks for your input.

I've never changed a bumper on a 74 Charger... but I have changed bumpers on several different vehicles. Shouldn't be a big deal, my only advise is, do not tighten all the bolts/nuts until you have everything aligned properly. Just snug them up so you have some movement, and when you get everything the way you like it, tighten everything down. 74 bumper is pretty big, might want to have a friend around to have an extra set of hands.

Most definitely a 2 person job. 3 would be better. It is a pain getting everything aligned properly. But having said that it is pretty straight forward.

Heavens no, save your money. Half the fun is working on these cars. Two people make it easy. I pulled and installed mine myself using the shop stool to balance it on as I loosened the front frame bolts.

Like 73rallye said, save your money and do it yourself, an extra person is helpful. I'm 48 and after 27 years of owning my 72 I still remove the bumper myself, doors are a bit more challenging but can also be done by yourself.  :2thumbs:

On my 71SE I did it myself but the more people the better.  I didn't have anyone to help so I took the chance using the floor jack.  Installed the brackets to the bumper first and had the bumper assembly; hidden headlights, motor, grills, etc balanced on my floor jack with a piece of wood.  Took my time and carefully slid the whole assembly into position lined up the bolt holes and tightened it up.  If it had slipped, it could have been costly and would only have myself to blame.
