Who drives their Chargers to Carlisle?

I drove mine there last year, maybe a 4 hour drive.  The q-jet wouldn't run on the secondaries so I had to watch the throttle.  Was freaking hot on the way home, brittle old vinyl seats, no carpet, headers...  :flame:   Not enough caster so steering was a bit squirrely, loud mud tires out back, none of them balanced.  Lost a rear axle seal on the way home, but made the trip and the radio worked great.  :2thumbs:

I have driven my 72 there 7 or 8 times. Exactly 1,000 miles round trip. 8 1/2-9 hours one way, longer if the wife is with me (double the pee breaks). Several times it's been brutally hot, so as BHP said, I leave around 5 PM Wednesday night and drive 5 hours. Then it's just a easy 3 hour cruise on Thursday.

The funny thing is I have trailered down twice. Four years ago with my Dad I trailered my 71. The truck broke down in NY on the way home-did fix it and got home.
Last year was trailering the 68 down with the wife. Had to abort the trip just north of Hartford and limped home. Yes I sold that POS Chevy truck :flame:

The 72 is a great highway cruiser. 318, 2.71 gears, 19 mpg on the highway. I fueled up in PA and made it home on that tank of gas. I have yet to break double digit MPG with the 68 so driving that one to Carlisle would be painful.

We use to drive there regularly (3 hour cruise) until the last couple of years.  We stopped taking the car a few years ago after we had that 110 degree weather.  My wife enjoys the A/C during those heat waves in July!

Well, have done it, will do it again. Damn this car is a great road machine. 50k in 12 years tells the story. I'm a lucky guy to have it. MPJ

I'm itching to get my Charger fired up and go for a ride. Rain predicted today and tomorrow. It should wash the sand and salt off the road.
