Man that thing is roached! No matter how bad it is though, its hard to not want to restore such a pretty and rare car...

Yes!
It needs someone who will bring it back from the dead.
It's too unique to waste away.

I hear you, I am save all the puppy's kind of guy too, but I am not sure what is left to save but roof section, vin tag and radiator support and trunk rail... wait based on trunk lid that is long gone too.  Apparently no original fender tag and no build sheet.  Some areas on the car up top seem so nice and bright, must have been inside but tons of moisture living below.  Sad deal they likely tried to keep it inside, but the wrong way, kinda like wrapping it in tarps..... doomsday....

Great optioned car, even if not rare by RT/500/Daytona..   Thought for a while too that is was maybe V21, but upon further scoping without paint overspay on vertical front edge cowl and the engine photo looking for curves on either side, I see rust not stripe remains.  That is what I see in photo, maybe in person I am wrong.  Does look like sunroof SE to me.  Cool car for sure.

It's got really nice options! But that's a parts car in my book.  :Twocents: But maybe one of the talented members here will restore it to its original glory!

Daytona R/T SE

This car ceased to exist decades ago. :Twocents:

If I owned it...

I'd strip it for parts and politely crush the rest.

6bblgt

It has 2 things going for it - the sunroof & the F6 paint
Everything else about the car SUCKS!
It's a parts car unless by some miracle there are 4 usable frame rails under that mess.
With ZERO documentation, nobody is going to restore it back to F6 CRG V1F 383 2bbl - if it wasn't SO rusty it wouldn't stay it's original combo either.

:scratchchin: Anyone know of a correctly restored 383 2bbl car?

Bandit72

weird how there is sooo muuucchhh rust but the paint survived pretty well!   :shruggy:
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

70 sublime

Looks like it is melting from the bottom up
Looks good around the back glass(better than normal)
next project 70 Charger FJ5 green

Yep, it is pretty far gone. If I had my shop up and running (about 3 years) and the price was right, I would consider taking it on. I'm going to say its got three things going for it - Sunroof, F6, and numbers matching drive train. The seller really really wants to see someone restore the car. He is holding his reserve just high enough to keep the scrappers at bay for awhile in hopes that someone takes on the challenge. Scott.

It's not a resto candidate.  But I fail to see why it should be scrapped.  If we crush them all then where do we get small parts?  What do we use to build tube-chassis racecars out of?  In fact it looks like a good donor body for that.  The upper half of the car survived better than average but the bottom is toast.

Those sunroofs are interesting, but IMO they're mostly desirable just because they are rare.  People don't retrofit that option to a non-sunroof car during a resto.

XS29L9Bxxxxxx

Wonder what's holding the rear bumper on? More scale??  :Twocents:

Aero426

Jack the sunroof up and drive a new car underneath.   Not much original structure left to work with.   Maybe the Barrelcuda guy up in Canada would have the guts to take it on.

GOTWING

I would say that the reason the paint survived so well is because it was parked in the woods in 1979 and was basically in the shade, after a good power washing this is what you end up with seeing. If it sat in a field that long the sun would have toasted the paint.

I like the shower curtain type rod holding the ¼ panels in place.  :icon_smile_big:

Once in a while they do.  :icon_smile_big:

If this is Pete's bird he scavenged a sunroof from a 1969 Charger that was in the same crappy condition as the green one. He told me the car literally collapsed on the trailer bringing it home.

The hardwood floor is of the trailer you are seeing thru the missing trunk floor. And trunk floor extensions. And frame rails. And gas tank brace. And gas tank. And crossmembers. And.....

Yes, the seller has informed me that the buyer has already started the restoration. The seller is going to try to keep tabs on the progress, and hopefully he will pass on the tidbits to us.
