I wonder what Welch sold it for.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Good find, but I am not sure it's the original car from the movie, as it has too many hubcaps :Twocents:

jaak

If this is the car that surfaced a few years back, if I am not mistaken, there is no documentation on the the car, a lot of interesting circumstantial evidence, but no real documentation/proof right? Nice car even if it isn't the Bullitt Charger.

AFAIK this is the only Charger that has ever been seriously presented as a possible "Bullitt" contender.

It is. And looking at pics/evidence, I'm almost convinced it is the Bullitt Charger, it's just It can never be proven.

I agree, the circumstances seem very good.  The options on the car, the location & time of the sale, etc.

Unfortunately it's not provable with current info.  The owner contacted Warner Bros and they basically said he knew more about the car than they did.  Chrysler doesn't have any more info either.

heres the link  to the guys charger on the german site

http://www.ponysite.de/charger_welch.htm

  on a side note

:scratchchin:    I recon there must be old insurance documents & legal paper work  , recipts & stuff  for the cars used on the movie sets  , in WB archives or who ever was making the film   , which show a vin ,  prolly same for the VP challengers &  DMCL chargers  , prolly every car , bike , aeroplane etc  that has been used in films etc ....

He had it down at the Nationals here a couple years ago and if you ever talked to him, right from the start he is more than willing to try to convince you that it is the Bullitt car...right up to the point of becoming a little overbearing. Damn nice looking car though.
Dave

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

Ghoste

And now that it belongs to a dealer you can bet that its future as the Bullitt Charger is assured whether its proven or not.  Maybe Canepa will buy it.

Stegs

on a side note

whats the deal with the motor being blue? i thought all 440s were painted hemi orange?  :shruggy:

somebody with more knowledge please fill me in

Ghoste

wingcar

I know for a fact that this can not be the original "Bullitt" Charger as I saw the original hit that gas station (well almost hit it) and it blow up and burned with the two hit men inside..... :nana: :D

(*I thought I read back in the day that the Charger was an automatic?)
1970 Daytona Charger SE "clone" (440/Auto)
1967 Charger (360,6-pak/Auto)
2008 Challenger SRT8 BLK (6.1/Auto) 6050 of 6400

The Charger in the beginning of the chase was an automatic, as you can see from the column shift in a couple of the scenes. The charger in the end of the chase as the guy is loading the shotgun you can see the 4 speed bezel. The only thing that bothers me if the proof that the car was the Bullit charger was all the holes...why would you cover them up during the restoration if that is your only proof. I remember he wanted a million dollars for it.

Is the black interior with the gray pleats also correct for the movie car? I like that look just not sure I remember seeing that in the movie?
Thanks

Good catch Pat, I was going to weigh in on that

IIRC the Bullitt stunt-car was a column/auto and the closeup car was a 4spd.

It breaks the car-guy fantasy but the vast majority of stunt cars are really automatics.  Stunt guys prefer autos.

Vanishing Point (the original) was an exception, with 4 out of 5 cars being 4spds.
