Last time I had my car out for a drive the dash lights and tail lights quit working.  I have looked at obvious things first like fuses and the connection at the bulkhead... everything looked good at the bulkhead and I replaced the fuse for good measure and still no lights working. Where do I look for the problem now?

H/L switch and dimmer switch. Roll the knob of the dimmer full range a bunch of times quickly. Behind Dr. side kick panel is a main coupler to rear lights..

Sounds like a bad connection in the headlight switch. Gently rock the switch and see if dash lights/ taillights start working. More times than not if your gauge lights And tail lights are not working... its in the headlight switch. If its just the gauge lights, its usually the dimmer wheel.

how do you pull the headlight switch to change it?

b5blue

D69 you gotta pull the entire cluster.

Do the head light relay upgrade, threads on here,
Switch becomes just that without the full power load on switch , it's tripped circuit breaker , these switches have done a lot of work over the years,
There easily opened up, to clean points and new die electric grease in switch

You may be able to get your hand up behind the switches and wiggle the connectors and wiring, it could be a loose or crappy connection?  :scratchchin:

I have the same problem now with my 69. No tail lights or dash. Brake, turn, headlights and flashers work. I don't drive at night very often so I don't know when it went bad. I did just do a distributor and wire change last week. Anyway, I'm going to work on it tomorrow. The bulbs are all new and fuses look good. Figure I will change out the fuses anyway and start trouble shooting.

Update: I found a blown 20 amp fuse and replaced. Tail lights worked! I drove around last night and tonight and everything was fine. I stopped for dinner and when I left tail lights and dash out again. I assume the fuse is blown again but will check tomorrow and troubleshoot. Any ideas anyone. I just replaced the plugs, dist. and wires along with new tail light bulbs so that's the only thing different since this problem started. I used 1157's and the 2 inner bulbs I cant remember at the moment.

Might sound a little silly but check the bulbs to make sure they have fully rotated in the socket assembly or one of the base contacts is bent and touching the other... :Twocents:

Fuse blew for a reason....you need to check for a intermittent shorted wire.
