The 902 casting heads are very similar to the 452 castings. They respond well to minor bowl porting. The 902's also have hardened exhaust seats which is a bonus with unleaded fuel.  :2thumbs:

hi. thanks for the response. They are dated 73. Do you happen to know if all 902's have the harden seats? someone told me the early ones did not??/ thanks ron

As reported the 902 are very much like the 452 and do respond to the bowl work. Of all the big block Mopar iron heads the 902 is the one that I have experienced a cracking issue. For some reason the 902 factory hardened seats are very often cracked. Some 40% of my 902 heads have been cracked through the induction hardening. If not cracked too far you can machine out the induction hardening and install an aftermarket hard seat. If possible, I would bypass the 902 and use the 452 simply because of the exhaust seat issue.

well darn I had already bought them over the weekend. So I guess im stuck with that problem now.. :( r

I second that on the 902 castings it seems that several ones that I had run across over the years were cracked also.

Take to machine shop and have em look close at exhaust seat area.

As Cooter said ; have the machine shop magnaflux the heads and pressure test them  :scope:
