resto68charger

Hello All,
I'm looking for some info on a place in Michigan that specializes on restoring Chargers. I have a 1968 Charger that I would like to do a frame off restoration. I don't have the space, time or expertise to take on this project. The car is in great shape but will need a paint job soon and I want to keep the rust at bay. Ideally, I would like to dip the car and get it e-coated. I know of a place in Milwaukee, WI that can do the dip and e-coating but I would like to have the work done locally if at all possible. Any information would be greatly appreciated. You can send me an email at needcharger@hotmail.com. Thanks.

I have been having my stuff dipped at redi-coat.  It is in Romulus.  Where are you located?

You may not want to go in asking for a "frame off" restoration - Chargers are unibody cars. If you don't get an answer about a decent shop here then start going to shows and cruise-ins and asking owners about cars that look really good to you. The locals usually know the best shops in the area. Get several references and be prepared to get on a long waiting list if they are good. Also be prepared to spend lots of $$$ (the dip and e-coat process alone will be several thousand dollars). I remember a dipper in MI but I can't think of the name right now. I don't believe they had the e-coat though.

Good luck!

I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

Troy, that is redi-coat.  It's in Romulus, Mi.  I have had a door, fender, hood and trunk lid done there so far.  Pretty nice work, website is www.redi-coat.com

If the car is in great shape why do a dip?If future rust is your concern, there are shops dat do a full clean and wax job on all innerchassis parts, floors et all, I'd go for something like that.
But that's your choice, I'm all for chemical dips with resto jobs, unless it'll be a daily driver, then it's just a waste really. It won't stop rust forever, nor dus media blasting, all we can do is slow it done but for a driver?Clean it up and use plenti floorcoating, checkup every 6 months to keep 'cancer' at bay.
How long can you wait?I'll need time to set myself up, enlargen the garage and get some new tools, but being a bodyman for the past 16 years I could repaint your charger for ya, no sweat.
Straight, smooth and much cheaper than the competition, altough i have no idea yet who the competition might be.... ;D
Anyway's, I'll be in Michigan in the not too distant future, 40 minutes west of Detroit so if it doesn't have to be done in the next few months then there's a possibility to do it.
Got any pics btw? We're suckers for pics here.

Cool, I wasn't sure if there was another one. I know those guys are a chain but I was thinking it was something different.
