The Charger on the Dyno again

The HEMI show is over. Lots of work and glad it is behind us. Pics of the show and this dyno run will come later.

So, I had the Charger back on the dyno at the show. Too cheap not to do it. $30 for two pulls, which was actually three pulls. I will post the newest dyno sheet, and the older one. There is improvement. Look at the charts and tell me what you think.

Changes I have made since the previous dyno run are, switched to a Holley 670 carb, jetted up two sizes from stock in both the primary and secondary, 65p/68s, to 67p/70s. Timing is now 30° base, 34° total, all in by 2000 RPM.

Here is the newest dyno sheet. On the first pull the trans kicked down, screwed up the chart, and readings. The next two pulls I started the pull at 2700 RPM, no kick down.

This is the sheet from the previous Dyno run, Same machine, same Dyno operator. I was running a Holley 750 at the time, timing was at 18° base, 34° total. all in around 2000.

Ok, I'll start.  First of all, I am not familiar with your setup, but it looks like all the improvement is due to the carb.  Same total timing in at 2000rpm.  The pulls don't start till 2500 or more so little effect from timing.  Was the timing change a recommendation??  I also notice the engine falls off pretty sharply at a little over 5000 RPM now compared to previous, so looks like the smaller carb is really helping below that and really runs out of capacity over that.  Kind of falls in line with the way I understand these things work.   I would guess if you want to keep the bigger carb you would you need some other engine mods such as exhaust or cam.

I do like the nice flat HP and torque curves.  Nice increase in torque, I bet you can feel that in the seat of your pants!!  Nice street driving setup.

I wonder about such a large swing in weather conditions and associated corrections.  In theory, it should not matter.

Timing change was in an effort to find an off idle stumble and a little sluggishness off the line. After eliminating fuel and carb issues I went to ignition and timing. This engine likes lots of static timing. Total timing works best at 34°, no detonation. 36° tends to ping a little even on 91 octane. I dont know the cam specs or how it is degreed?

The dyno operator had me shut it down at 5300, that is the drop off on the chart, it will pull to over 6000 RPM. On the track shifting just under 5500 worked the best.

The engine is a torquey little bugger.

The first dyno run shows 32°, not in Phoenix, lol. It was an October day, around the same temps as the last dyno run, low 80's.

Looks great and sounds great!  That's some respectable torque with a stock stroke.

Paul - your Charger sounds sweet!   :yesnod:   What type of headers, exhaust and mufflers are you running?

Hooker long tube 1 5/8" headers. 2 1/2" muffler shop exhaust through muffler shop Xlerator, turbo mufflers. That video was with open headers. It has electric exhaust cut outs, which were open during the dyno run.

Any issues with the electric cut outs?  I was thinking of doing the same with mine but I heard they fry after awhile.  Can you post a pic if you have one and what brand did you go with?

I used Pypes brand cut outs. I had problems with them not staying closed. After several times being sent back, with $100 repair bills, they made a modification, now they work great. I would use a different brand if I did it again. These are butterfly style. I would use the knife blade style next time.
