Morning to all. Need a little help with a possible purchase. I will getting my daughter her first car  :2thumbs: and wondering if anyone knows something about these vehicles. It's a 2008 Dodge Avenger, 2.7 V6 with about 100,000 kms on it. No rust, runs great but hoping someone can point out any flaws with these cars or anything   :shruggy:

Hello,

Do a '08 dodge avenger reviews" Google search. I've found this
to be a valuable tool to get an idea of problems or praise
for vehicles. Good luck.

Thanks Tom. Just got off the phone with firefighter Ron and he told me the same thing. Going this afternoon with my daughter and see if she actually does like the car in the first place.

PS. She keeps looking at my charger like she's going to inherit the car soon due to an unexpected illness on my part   :icon_smile_evil: Better get her a dodge soon   :smilielol:

Have they (Chrysler) fixed all the problems with the 2.7l that plagued the Intrepid?

yes, they fixed them right around the time the LX (Charger/300/Magnum) cars came out (it was the base engine on those from 05-11). I had a 2.7 Charger for about a year and never had any issues with it, also know a lot of people who've had them in the newer cars and they are fairly reliable.  Powerwise, it's dog in those big cars, but should be more than adequate in the smaller Avenger.

That Avenger should be a decent daily for her.  May get a little boring, but that's what a daily is right?

I'd take it all day over my first car.

I had one for a rental car once.  It was fun to drive and handled well.  From a safety perspective it seems a pretty good option as it should have side impact air bags.  From my perspective, if I was shopping for a first car they would be a required feature.

Any car provided to a daughter to drive as a first vehicle should be good enough for her.  I wouldn't worry about if she likes it a whole lot or not, her opinions will change the more time she spends behind the wheel.  I bought a 1994 Mazda Miata M Edition for my daughter's first car (three years ago) when she went off to college this year, realized it wasn't going to work out very well for college, but it worked out great while she was in High school.  They are cheap, easy to work on for the most part, and pretty darn dependable up to 200k.  I just repainted my 94 to correct some bodywork issues I had with it, even though the carfax was clean, you could tell it had been fixed by an amateur and had a quickie paint job, I fixed all the dings, and dents in it, (pulling out, not filling in and over) and repainted it, and am getting it ready to sell since we don't need it anymore.  Daughter wanted a back seat and a hardtop, (one of the reasons I got the convertible to start with was to teach her no matter how good a vert is, it will drip on you in a rainstorm) So I bought her a 2004 Hyundai Tiburon GT to drive to college.  I'm making her pay for this one though, only the first one was free to use.

I plan on asking about 3800 for it, which is quite a bit less than the avenger would cost, but it gives you an idea of what they go for.  (2000-5000)  I paid 4200 for her Tiburon GT, then put about 1600 into it to ensure it was going to be dependable...fixing all the worn parts, hoses, belts, timing belt and water pump etc.  She loves it, so much so that I can hardly pry it away from her when she comes home for the summers. (I like to play with it too)

A word of warning, if she doesn't pick up her room on her own, her car will look just as messy inside, must be a girl thing, my mom made us keep our rooms clean, and my dad made us keep cars clean too, didn't take too well with my daughter.
