Looks like a rather easy rebuild  :yesnod:

It is one of 21,512 original 318 Rallye Charger's built in '74.

Where does that number come from?

Also, there's not enough info in the ad or pics to verify it as an original Rallye. Either an A57 or V21 on the tag would be needed. The hood has 73 style vents (something that could be normal for earlier 74s) but most 74 Rallye cars didn't get the V21 treatment like 73s. If it was the original 318 Rallye hood, then the hood pins and emblem holes were added. '71 seats too? It's just very possible the car was cloned into a Rallye.
WANTED: NOS or excellent condition 72-74 4 speed shifter boot for bench or centre armrest car, part number 3467755. It's a rubber boot that looks like it's sewn up leather.

WANTED: My original 440 blocks. Serial # 2A188182 and 3A100002

Bob

Looking at the fender wells it appears to be the small metal covers instead of the rubber for big blocks.

Looked nice a nice car until she got hot... I think it would clean up fairly well.  :2thumbs:  The other area of concern is the dented right front fender, and the right wheel wonky in the wheel well (or maybe its the picture)?

Yep...sure is.  Makes you wonder if when the fire happened, he drove it off road and over a curb and clipped something?  Looked like a nice car.

JR

I maybe missing something obvious since im looking at the pics on my phone, but im suprised they totaled that. That looks like a very easy repair. Alot of our cars started off way worse than this.

Sure is a great looking 3rd gen.

Boy that's an interesting auction. Wonder how long it's running. I didn't see any time remaining or end of auction date.

Bill440rt that's right in the neck of your woods. I know you're a 2nd gen guy but that having a Hemi sure makes it interesting. Maybe someone is looking for their numbers matching Hemi and it's sitting in that 74. I wonder what this baby is going to sale for.

Thanks for posting TT

TUFCAT

I just looked at the auction listing more carefully.

The car may have been totaled so it probably doesn't have a clear title (big problem)....but this is how the details read:

Actual Cash Value: $31,370
Repair Cost: $50,000
Title State: NJ
Title Type: SALVAGE CERTIFICATE
Odometer: 536 - Not Actual
Primary Damage: BURN - ENGINE
Secondary Damage: UNDERCARRIAGE

I decoded the vin, then looked up the production figures. It is also 1 of 105 Rallye's built total.

Yeah, I know, but those numbers state that there are 21512 318 hardtops, not that there are 21512 318 Rallyes. Not sure what the 105 number is all about cuz every single WL21L4, WH21U4, WH23L4, and WH23U4 is a Rallye by VIN, so there are quite a few more '74 Rallyes. I just don't want anyone bidding on the thing thinking it's a true Rallye, they may be disappointment.

I used to buy and sell a ton of cars at Copart.  It will not have a clear title,  will be salvage or parts only.  Insurance company totals cars by the numbers normally, repair cost 75% of value then its totaled.  (example- $1000 car with $800 damage is totaled)  They would rather total cars like these due to the lack of shops willing to work on them, hard to find parts, and the customers are very hard to please compared to modern daily driver customers.   :Twocents:

Sure is.  :yesnod:
I know this car, looks familiar, I remember seeing it parked in a driveway of a neighboring town. YES, if it's the same one I'm thinking of it was always kept outside.
I go to that Copart location several times a week, I don't ever remember seeing that Charger there, though. Lately the lot has been a muddy mess due to the weather and now it's under a foot of snow so those pics must have been taken some time ago.
I'm supposed to be going there today, so I'll keep a lookout for this car!  :scope:  :2thumbs:

EDIT: The yard is performing cleanup today due to the snow, everything is buried, so looks like my visit will be postponed until Monday. Keep ya's posted!

Having repaired a fire damaged classic in the past, I can attest to how nasty this car likely is. Everything will have extinguisher debris in it and it's likely the entire vehicle smells like a smoke bomb.

We had $60k into the carb fire C2 I repaired.
