Wow....quite a mistake!  :brickwall:  They allegedly treated him like crap, humiliated him, and even denied his medication while in jail.

"The couple has since filed a lawsuit against the officers and head of the highway patrol for civil rights violations. And now it will be the taxpaying citizens of Nevada, who are held responsible for the gross incompetence of these officers".

Unreal....what type of training are these cops receiving?  It's scarily just how close they might have come to being shoot.  I know that being a police office is not the easiest job in the world...BUT when you pull out your gun you had better be sure you did all the right things....first!  (Glad they were alive to be able to file a lawsuit...)

That should be a nice payday for the couple.  Maybe they can get that 427 crate motor finally...

TUFCAT

True.... Or a newer 'Vette.  :yesnod:   Helll, I'd let the cops humiliate me, take my shirt off and kneel down on the highway at gunpoint for that!

myk

No thanks.  If we have officers that can behave that badly, with unchecked emotions, you can bet they have poor or non-existent trigger finger discipline also...

Imagine if this exact same incident happened to couple of poor 19yo minorities in a '93 Taurus.

It would not be the slightest bit interesting.  No news story, no lawsuit, no public outcry, nothing.  Nobody would think twice.  The kids would be lucky if they even got out of the whole thing without being punished or having the arrests on their record.

Cops are outlaws. To serve and protect :eek2:

I respect the police. Like any profession there's always going to be a few "bad examples" out there.

I agree with TUFCAT. I worked in a Police Dept for 2 years as a victim advocate. I got along great with the seasoned officers and those that were prior military like myself. I told one young officer to "check his attitude" before it gets him in trouble. He told me to fuck off, 4 months later he was fired for civil rights violations. Best fpr me was seeing him at Subway a year later and saying...."Too bad you did not listen to me, but why would you? I'm just an old retired Sarge who booted kids like you out of the military for acting that way."  :2thumbs:

Where I live, if you're a guy and get pulled over...you WILL get a ticket. They will find something to make you pay.
When you're a girl/women...just show your boobs or more and you're good to go.
And that's not hearsay.

thank god they didn't shoot them. if it were me, a lawyer would be getting me the financing for a vintage hemi car to be in my garage. :D

Take it to court and you'll lose as a judge takes a sworn in peace officer's word over your word any day.

There's video on the link.

Lennard

Not everyone has a video to prove their case in court. It shouldn't even be necessary... There' s a thing called integrity, which is expected from someone that is supposed to keep law and order.

In most cases, the first words out of ones mouth when a police officer pulls you over will help determine the outcome of the interaction.   :yesnod:

I'm sure they thought these folks were members of a senior citizen classic car theft gang since this is such a problem these days. I know they're a big problem here in Florida where senior gangs like the "Jersey Whiteheads" plague the streets with their left blinker on all the time and driving 10 mph under the posted speed limit. Good thing we have armed police protecting us from them.

Can't they screen the potential for this sort of behavior during the selection process?

I would have thought with all the trouble these days with cops killing people and people killing cops something would have changed.  :-\
