I am getting ready to send my carbs out to be redone by Scott Smith. When I was driving the car (1987), I swapped the secondary diaphragm springs. What color should the original springs be?

I think purple was original on some, but the yellow tip was a common change.  However, I'm not certain of this.

I thought purple was 69 and yellow was a change for 70-71?

I seem to remember plain - or kind of a gold...or sometimes silver color. They are also a different size/shape than the ones that come in the tuning package.

Maybe, if someone can measure the wire size, how many turns and the free height I can figure out which of the springs I have are the originals.
Thanks, for all the responses.

Curious as to why it matter to you so much?

I would like to put the original spring back in so I have a known starting point for when I get the car back on the road and I start tuning it. I don't recall what secondary springs I put in it 30 years ago. I'm pretty sure what I put in there was the lightest spring.

Considering that the factory original verses something else is no better of a starting point, and it take 5 minutes to change, it really does not matter.

If we were talking about jetting, I would agree,

Agreed, if you are looking for a stone stock restoration then its one thing but if you are establishing a base point for a best performance tune then you can start where you are and work to the ideal.
