Do they make repo '68 tail light housing gaskets?

I've been looking everywhere.

A while back someone said that DMT made them, but they fit terribly and they took them out of their inventory until they made better fitting ones...  :shruggy:

Anyone know anything?

Jeff

Scratch that... I found a kit at Mr.Moparts and they were willing to break it down into individual pieces.

Both L/R gaskets shipped for $19.  :2thumbs:

Hope they fit!

Mr. Moparts web site doesn't list. Are these the thick black, one-piece gaskets that fit inside each tail light housing, sealing the tail light housing against the tail light panel?

I tried to carefully remove these with a heat gun, but could not salvage them - too much deterioration. I was thinking of filling the gasket cavity with a soft silicon product or possibly fitting/gluing in some narrow foam strips (cut from those swimming pool foam noodles), then shaping to slightly overlap the edge of the housing.
Appreciate your reply MXRacer.

Hey Nick!

Yeah, those are the ones. The gaskets between the actual housing and the tail panel.
Here's a link to an entire kit where you can actually see the two gaskets we're talking about...

They're more than willing to break the kit down and just give you both of those big thick black gaskets. Shipped they're under $20.  :2thumbs:

Hope that helps!

I hope these are decent, but don't hold your breath. There are gaskets out there for 68 Chargers, but I've never seen any that are made like the originals....... Waiting with anticipation that these will be good. Fingers crossed.

No problem guys!

Bodie - like you, I've heard nothing but bad things about any and all of these gaskets that have been produced...
I really hope that these are the winners!  :2thumbs:

I think I bought my set from DMT a few years back. Yeah- ugly. Very thick, like a 1/2" thick. After trying unsuccessfully to get them to fit I actually took a razor knife and sliced them in halves  ::)
Fit fine after that.

Apparently mine got "lost in the mail"...  :rotz:

So they sent out a new set and I just got them in the mail today.

I'll chime back in and post pics when finished.

It would be nice if somebody would make these with the correct fit. These repops are like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

I have bought many sets of trash tail lights just for the gaskets. We have got very good at taking out the original gaskets, without
damaging the gaskets, I have given sets to happy friends..

That's funny. I've done the same. A year or so someone said that dmt had some in the works. It would be great if they are correctly shaped.
