Anyone ever import a car from Canada to the states? Is it worth it?

A friend of mine lost interest in owning a mint '78 Aspen R/T, T-top car (rare) because he got more into camping now. He is asking $5500 Canadian, or $4400 American. I would LOVE to get this car if it is worth the time and effort. 318 (mildly built), automatic.

The car is in Kingston, ON.

Yes it is fairly easy Seeing its older than 25 years. My Daytona came from Canada and I had no problem transfering it.

Is there a lot of paperwork and or fees? I did a little research on it. And I have been in Canada once, so I know about customs and stuff

It should be fairly straight forward and simple. Not much paperwork and there should be no tax or duty fees because the car was built in the us. I bought a right hand drive Honda from Canada and that sucked ass and was a huge pain. American cars are a breeze.

Okay, thank you :)

I don't know if I am going to buy it or not, because living in Wisconsin, I'll spent a good 3k just getting it I'm sure  :P But I sure am thinking of it. I'm still going to look into it more first.

It's uncommon to bring unrestored older cars south over that border because of the rust issue.  It's kind of like importing a project car from 5 or 10 years in the future.
