Edelbrock carb/metering rods question

My 71 Charger has a 383 with a Edelbrock performer intake and a Edelbrock 600 CFM carb. She's alway seemed sluggish. I have a Mopar Performance Electronic ignition, timing is OK, new plugs and wires. I'm wondering if changing the metering rods in the carb will help. Current metering rods are both # 7047, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

timing is more likely to make it sluggish , Does it bog of the line ?? , Really the Carb is too small for a 383

I have a Carter AFB 600 (maybe 650, but pretty sure 600) on the 383 in my '69.  I just changed my rear end from 2.71 to 4.10, figuring that would wake it up (which it did!!!  :drive: ), but it still bogs when I push the pedal down off the line.  Flooring it at highway speeds pushes me right back in the seat like it should.

Suggestions from friends have varied from the accellerator, pump to the metering, to "dump it and get a Demon".  I'd rather get as much as I can out of what I have before I start throwing money at it.  I'll double-check the size, since Chryco says a 600 is too small.  And I don't know what camshaft I have (since that's probably a followup question).  Any way to tell without  having to pull it?

What size carb would be a good match?

the accerator pump is the most likely problem , you may need a bigger squirter to clean up the bog
on a 383 I would use a minimum 750 CFM

Brianosaurus Change the step piston springs. My 440 had a bog off the line too after I put on a 750 eldelbrock. This cured the problem. I would suggest buying the tuning kit for your carb. It comes with springs rods and jets.
