Hi Sawyer, I have been following this thread since you started it, but have not posted.  IF you really want to do the old man and those cars justice, please do NOT leave.  The members here only have the best interest of both in mind.  You do have to take some opinions and conclusions with a grain of salt and/or just ignore them.  Some people are just that way, but others also have to interpret by what is posted.  Many have helped others and been burned before.  You really will find good people willing to help you with every step of the way and one of the largest single places for the exact information you will need.  Including pictures and their experiences with the same thing.  If you decide to come back, great.  If you don't, best of luck getting them back on the road and furthering your friendship with Mr. Russell.  You should also understand why, if any of the suggested conclusions about your intentions were true, it would not be welcome or taken lightly by a group of people with good intentions in their hearts.  Take care.

It's over, Sawyer has already gone back and ruined the thread by deleting all of his posts so the essence of his original posts are long gone and will never be back.

Since he left in a huff, why would any members will try to help him in the future? Forget about this 10 day adventure.  This thread is at the top of the list for the craziest threads of 2015

Yep...Sawer has replaced all his comments with one word "done". Now the whole thread makes even less sense than it did before! Its unfortunate as I was looking forward to seeing this very strange story unfold.

What the hell is going on here?

Difficult to tell.  Could've been all made up.  Could've been real.  My guess is we will know if he is serious about these cars if/when we hear from him next.  Some unfolding undoubtedly.  He's been online since the last message.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

By his actions, deleting posts and running away is just a waste of our time.....and gives the appearance the OP isn't as "honorable" as he claimed to be.  :scratchchin:

Giving up is a pet peeve of mine.  If you try and fail, you only let yourself down.  At least you tried.  That alone, is a success.  If you just give up with no effort at all, you let everyone down. :Twocents:

:iagree:

I have no idea what to think about this thread..... :scratchchin:

But I agree with the above. It CAN be intimidating when your not sure the proper end of the wrench to use.....you see a hole in the floor and think "I'm over my head".......

Many of us would think "so? I've seen/fixed worse".......but we ALL started off not sure of the proper end of the wrench to use. While some of us figured it out from trial and error, more I believe, were helped by someone that knew how.

And that help was right here on this site. :yesnod:

All very true.  I hope his intentions were honorable.  He was online when I posted it.  My main intent was to help the old man indirectly.

Best part of this whole thread now:  "acid aunt"    :yesnod:

He got what he wanted, I guess. Now we are all used up whores.  :brickwall:

Well that was messed up!

Nothing more to see here people.  Move along.

I agree with your assessment of this thread...  :yesnod:   I was hoping for more.

Frustration with this thread aside.

What makes this forum work is that the next one with questions will come along and an effort will be made to help them.

I also anticipate we will see those cars in the future - hopefully improved.

Kind of a disappointing end to an interesting thread. Guess he didn't want to be judged if he strayed from his original deal with the owner.  :shruggy:

Here's my take on all of this......

I think Sawyer bought a 1972 Charger.  The rest of it, he was making up as he went along.  :Twocents: :Twocents:

Ah well, at least we enjoyed the journey to the end of this thread......

So just remember, it's the journey, not the destination.....

And BTW, the whole thing sounded a bit bit fishy from the get go....

WTF. Why leave when hes still taking the cars and its out of this league? What better place for help!!!! This is a hoax  :brickwall:

Hmmm.....hoax or not a hoax.....that is the question..... :scratchchin:

Only thing I can positively conclude.....

Chivalry is not dead.

Most of us here were concerned about a 80 year old being taken. I think that reflects well on us as a group.

Info/help is freely given [most times politely] and often in an entertaining manner. Even the occasional.....tussle.....involving cats.....can be informative as well as entertaining.

Whoa, I check back a day later and this?  :shruggy:

What a joke... It was a really nice story.
I was advocating for the "pay-it-forward" advice that was given.

Too bad.

Bill440RT hit the nail on the head... what a bunch of shit this was.  :rotz:

If it the story was true, perhaps he didn't like our honorable responses?

I've been exchanging emails with him since day one, helping him post pics of the 72. I was really excited about this thread and now it's dead.
I know I'm gonna get crap for this, but Some of you didn't help the situation. Now I did warn him in an email about how some of you can be real ball busters and he did kind of may have popped off. But we didn't help the situation. If we could have stopped him and mentored him instead of dog piling him, the story and the cars might still be here. I know what yall are gonna say about him not honoring the deal or whatever, but we could've handled it better imo.
Or how he's not a marine, but how do we know. You expect him to post of pic of him in uniform. Tom told me he was in the navy and I didn't ask him for proof. I think some thought the story was to Good to be true and made judgement right then and there. " it isn't a true story, no such thing can exist". Never giving him a chance.
I'm done. If you bash me so be it. I believed in the guy

Luke,  Thank you for doing what you did.  If what he wrote is the way it turned out, then that is fine by me.  All I was concerned about was that the 81 y.o friend was treated with dignity and respect.  Russell is the one who can make that judgment, not me, and it sounds like he did and is happy with it.
