Hey guys, this might sound stupid, but I have a ? For you, I know the rt is very disirable but I just looked on ebay and it seems the rally's are not doing so well, is it worth putting a ton of money into it? I know I will restore the 69 to glory days, but now that I look on ebay, the rally's are pretty low priced, is that normal?

Interesting story indeed.

I just did a search on ebay for previous items and seen one rallye, and I don't even think it sold.  What/where are the rallye's you are seeing sold?

You will have to post some photos of this rallye, even the fender tag is a good start to post.
Ideally, you don't want to put a ton of money in any car.  Depends on what you want to do with it.  Seems this owner has you in a pinch.  In order to gain access to the more desirable car you have to dump money into this lesser valued car.
A lot of scenarios could happen here, usually none to your likings.

Can't you get brake parts at any autozone or napa?

Well, the deal was get the Rally going to get the RT so I don't think you have a choice. I would go with Classic Industries for the parts. Just watch for 20% off and free shipping sales.

Personally, for $400 you cannot go wrong with a rallye, as it sits, running with all original drivetrain intact.
Is it an auto or 4 speed?  You must know that if you seen the car.  What was the color?

If they've been taken care of, this might not be a money pit. How are the fenders/ quarter panels, trunk and floors? If it has been started and driven, hopefully you won't be in too deep if you do the work yourself. If you hafta pay someone, it might not be worth it. I think his man is looking for a friend, I'd keep him in the loop as far as the Rallye goes. Let him help you tinker, even if all he's gonna do is drink your beer. Maybe he'd part with the 69' sooner if he sees you're genuinely interested in the Rallye, after all it was his wifes car. Take the time to show him these cars will be in good hands.

Welcome to the forum   Sounds like the original owner is looking for a good home for his 69, and the 72 is the test.  If this is the case, I'd give that 72 a full tune up (replace fluids, belts, get all the lights and brakes functioning) and just clean it up the best you can to get it street legal.  I'd also take  some pix to take to show the guy while you share a cup of coffee every so often, (and to post here as well ;)).

Cncguy

I Think your friendship with this guy is worth way more than both of these cars.

ODZKing

When the time comes, depending on the parts you need there are lots of places we have all ordered from.
Brake parts usually can be gotten from NAPA, Advance or Auto Zone.  Otherwise there are lots of places out there that carry brakes for these cars.
For the price, even if you put a grand into it, it will be worth it.
Nice find. And I'll go one step further and say your friendship with this guy is worth way more to him than both of these cars ever will be worth.

F8-4life

Just the rally doors are worth possibly more then he's wanting for the whole car.

moparnation74

I am just curious.  What did he mean by getting the rallye done?  Has he expressed that in detail prior to getting the 69?

400.00 for the rallye, That's a no brainer!

RallyeMike

Neat story, and you have a new friend to boot.

Throw some pics up after your next meeting and people will be better able to evaluate what you have. One thing is for sure: A 72 Rallye that is complete and can be drive is worth $400 no matter how rusty it is.

It's an automatic, was white with the black accents, rust color now, lol, has white interior, shifter is on the floor, I believe it is the original 383, the odometer say it has 106,000 miles on it, and it's got these weird dents, indents, louvers, what ever you call them on both sides, but I have seen him in pictures with it and it looked nice as hell back in the day. ...., keep it original color?

Sounds like great colors.  If you are planning to go as far as repainting, the car would look very sharp.  Does it have a vinyl top?  Triple white big block Rallye is a pretty nice score

Could be that a lot of this 'rust' is merely caked on bird droppings and dirt.  Get it home, clean it up and take some photo's to share.

good story, the other members are correct in that the friendship developed is far more valuable than the cars and teaching your son to help others goes a long way in my book good for you. :2thumbs:
If the engine is a big block, its either a 400 or a 440, trans would be a 727, both good combos. if the taillights are good shape they can sell for $500 to $600 for the pair, doors are 72 only and good ones can fetch $ 1000 to $ 1,200 for the pair, good power bulge hood for $ 500 and up. Triple white car with rust should be saved, but I'm partial  to 71 and 72 Chargers, especially R/Ts and Rallyes. finding parts can be easy, when your ready post a wanted ad here, lots of member are ready to help when they can.
We need some pictures, please.
