Hey guys,
Well, I'm finally underway after 2 years of talking about it on my restoration project.  Many of you know I've been building a garage behind my house to store my toys but also to add some space to restore my next Charger.  The Charger has a pretty cool history and I've tracked it back to 1975 when it was traded in at a local Dodge Dealership.  The used car salesmen purchased it for $800 as that was the trade in price and sold it to his sister and brother in law who in turn used the car as a Summer car up until 1981.  He had the car repainted, a new top installed, rebuilt the 440 and 727, and also used it to tow is 68 383 Charger to the local 1/8 mile race track.   Pretty cool.  Anyhow, his wife got tired of the old Charger as her summer work ride and decided she wanted something more economical therefore they put it up for sale for $3K and a local kid purchased it right before graduating from high school.
That summer he used it as a tire shredding machine around the neighborhood and in November decided he didn't make the best choice and wanted a truck for winter.   He stopped by my dads house knowing he was a Charger guy and my dad purchased it for what he purchased it for 6 months before, $3K.  My dad drove it for a week or so and for the winter parked it in my grandparents dirt floor pole building/barn where it sat virtually untouched until 1994.  At the time my dad was going thru a divorce and decided to put the car in storage.   Prior to that I was 16 years old and I was eager to start a resto project therefore I pulled the 440 with a plan to detail it but the high school job wasn't enough to fund the project and the divorce got the best of the entire family.  At the time the car went into a storage unit where it sat until Labor Day 2014 when I pulled it out and brought it to it's new home.   I had a few things to wrap up around the house (and to the new 4 speed 70 I bought) so that delayed the start of the restoration until now.  I'll try to keep everyone posted as I progress thru the restoration.  Next up is the removal of the undercoating which is about 80% complete and when I get my rotisserie back in March it will get hung and off to the soda blaster.  For now I have lots of parts to clean, media blast, and prep for paint.   The body overall is nice with the exception of the trunk floor and around the back window.  I posted a few pics of my progress so far in addition to some photo's of mine and my dad's other 70's.   Enjoy.   Bill

So that 70 sat in a storage unit for twenty + years?

Man if you could only have that expense transformed into the restoration funds lol.

Good luck with it

What a sweet car. Looking forward to following.

You're pretty brave to be restoring a car with the little rascals racing around. How long til they take the garden rake to the side of it once it's done?  :nana: Cute kiddos- good memories for them.

Thanks guys.  The kids will be in involved as much as they want to be.  I'm not the type of guy that will push them away or have them not want to touch the cars. They know to respect them but at the end if the day they'll be handed off to them when I'm gone.  I grew up shifting the 4 speed in the black 70 so now its my kids wanting to play drag racer. It's a family affair and when this ones done they'll be hanging out the sunroof at the car cruises with their feet on the $1400 leather seat covers.  lol. This one is going to be awesome when it's done and I'm hoping to have it in paint before Fall so I can spend all next winter assembling her for  a 2016 reveal.  I'll keep you posted.  Bill

For Sure.   Well, I ordered an AMD Filler Panel, Front and Rear quarter patch panels to replace the patches I found that were put in '81, a 2 piece trunk floor, and a front valance.   I'm going to install these then have the car Soda blasted.   I'm hoping by May 1 it's ready to go tothe body shop for some blocking and EB7 color.   Stay tuned for updates    :2thumbs:
