and this is the reason I downplay my charger so fckin hard......but I do love these stories about the buyers man they made me laugh so hard.

TUFCAT

To be honest, negotiating through email is an absolutely dumb way to buy a car....(assuming that's what this buyer was doing).  I wouldn't even consider selling a car to someone who couldn't pick up the phone and call me.  Most email offers are from tire-kickers anyway....

1974dodgecharger

very true TufCAT.....I will text/email though to get more info and if they can answer them in a text that actually draws me more interested in it and then will make the call.  Don't forget we may have dumb buyers, but we also have dumb sellers.....that's why we have that thread on dumb sellers  :icon_smile_big:

The latest insulting e-mail on my Charger. This guy asked it still for sale, I said 3 guys were looking at it now, He responds with this :brickwall: LEON.

Those 3 guys must be a bunch of idiots to fight over a piece of junk for 29,000 dollars. It's worth no more than 10,000. You're lucky to have morons fight over it. James.

It's a sign: keep the car and save yourself the headaches; you've been banging your head on a wall since you started this thread...

Why would James even bother if he wasnt interested in the car then? (a rhetorical question)  He was right about you having to deal with a moron though.

This has to be the most surreal series of events around the selling of a Car... ANY Car, that I have ever witnessed ?
Little-lown LEON's Charger ?

THAT Charger.... is hands down the best value for money in a Charger, that I have seen advertised in a very long time.
Maybe it's the passion associated with these cars ?
or,
those aspiring to own one ? I dunno ?
But just seems to be a dis-proportionate amount "special" people responding... in the "Olympic" sense of the word !
Only wimps wear Bowties !

I talked to this other guy for a week or more about it.  A week later he wants pic of All Vin #'s so he can have his Friend Verify it's a real R/T I guess & worth it. SO, After Disappearing for a week to research it & discussing it with his buddy he cames back a week later saying OK, I'll take it. In that weeks time I got tons of phone calls & e-mails on it. And 2 local guys come to inspect in this time frame. 2 local guys want it, one sez hold it for him & the other guy sez he wants it & getting the funds together. The other guy off for a week doing research is now pissed at me for letting 2 other guys look at it & wanting it. What was I suppose to tell these other guys, Sorry, It might be sold or one hold. Last Time I did that I turned away potential Customers & then the Buyer blow me off like a Bad Cold. What would you do. Here's what the other guy sez below? LEON.

I look pretty bad in front of Mark and the guys cause we've done all that research and preparation on the car for nothing. I hope you would just sell me the car Leon. Thanks

Hello LEON, I'll weigh in here. As you know these cars sells themselves. I would not tolerate any dreamy, potential, "I'll get the money", tire-kicking, flakey buyers. Buyers need to know that in this market (2nd gen. Chargers) that you have to act quick, show up with cash and have a trailer there ready for transport. That being said I would run my ad with something in this content, "First one with cash in hand takes it. No deposits, no holds and no commitments without a cash transaction.

But you still want to offer any info that a potential buyer may need for him/her to make a decision. But it's the buyer's responsibility to act if for any reason that their process is slowed down making a decision and possibly having the car sold to someone else. If it were me I would have the Charger up on a trailer (if I owned one, wouldn't rent one in this plan) hooked up and ready to tow it to a remote area within close range of your resident. Make sure that the buyer is there by you having them contact you and then you make to short trip. No dealing with "No Shows" that way. If they want to offer you a deposit and say that they will be back in 3 hours with the rest, I would tell them to keep your money and when you have it all then make an arrangement to meet again. Same place for all that matter. Give them only two shots at it, if they flake twice then they're off the buyer's list. On your end make sure you have all documentation, keys, parts etc. on hand ready to complete any potential deal. No, "Well I have to go back to the house and get the title" that gives more time for the potential buyer to back off and change his/her mind.

This will weed out a lot of dead beat buyers running the show that way. I know it's sounds like a lot of hassle but I like that hassle vs the other hassle IMO.

I really believe that this hobby is advantage to the seller as he/she can sit on the car arms folded and not taking any BS from buyers. In your add you don't want to come on too strong ie. using cuss words and drama, but get the point across as if you were a stand-up citizen with good morals.

The one guy wanting it probably called me 5-6 times yesterday along with a few e-mails, All gun ho & excited to be buying it. Today, Nothing, Nada, Did not respond to my e-mail today either. Typical, not the first time this has happened. Another tire kicker blowing hot air? :scratchchin: :brickwall: :slap: :shruggy: LEON.

I guess I'm just a big, fat prick when it comes to this kind of thing.  :shruggy:

In my 35+ years of screwing around with old cars...

I've closed the garage door, went in the house and left bewildered, toothless, inbred dreamers standing alone in the driveway when they pull their "will you hold it for me for a while" bullshit.

I've told countless idiots to beat it, when they try to tell me how much MY car is worth.

If they can't afford the car, are waiting on "Their settlement" (Yes, It's happened), have to check with their wife, mother, girlfriend, boyfriend, or some imaginary friend in the sky...

I just tell them to leave.  :fu:

This is a great bit of insight. It took a few cars to figure that out. Now I don't even bother responding to the tire kickers. Let good pics and a detailed description do the work.

I do find some entertainment in looking at the stuff people offer up in trade. Like they are gathering up all the junk on their property to try and use it to move into a Charger.

Don't forget the ones that want to make payments.  ::)

charger_fan_4ever

Im quick to shut it down too when it gets wishy washy. NO HOLDING unless a non refundable down payment with X time to come up with the rest on a signed document. If they want to make a deposit but won't sign an agreement beat it.

Homerr

Leon,  I've long thought that your car needs more pictures.  The ones in your ad are okay, but a a photobucket or similar album of 40-50 pictures would go a long way.  Detail shots of damage, replacement parts, interior, trunk, engine, fender tag, VIN (even if you want to block off the last 6 digits).  I'm sure the car is worth what you are asking, I just don't think a few pics show the car off well.

I still say fixing the damage and then posting a bunch of pics would put it in the $45-50k realm (assuming interior is nice and car is decently detailed/cleaned up).  An ad talking about options would be much more positive than one talking about damage.

A myriad of pictures really commences the handshake.  :2thumbs:

Leon, I remember seeing it at Cars-on-line years ago when I was looking for my R/T.
It really stood out because it was original and unmolested. Straight up, I would have been happy to own it and pay you your fair price at the same time. If my deal had fallen through I would have been calling your number.
Good luck with the sale, stick to your guns.

Cheers

Your story makes me worry about listing mine in the future, when it comes time to sell it, I will not have much patience with tire kickers or lookers, and certainly won't be giving test rides in it.  Either show me the money or shut up I don't need to hear opinions of wanna be owners, and won't be learning much from any prospective buyers, think I know about everything I need to already.
So cars.com is the preferred listing service eh? not Hemmings?  listing on CL would be a joke, I doubt I'd list it there, that is where the new generation tries to buy and sell from, and more than half the listings are dealers acting as private parties.
