Can you explain why you never answered my pm to you?
Can you explain what part of the thread about Williams was political. Im slow and was just wondering.
Can you tell me who owns this site?
Can you tell me how a thread can disappear off this site instead of being locked?
Thanks.

I was recently interested in a thread about a 66 hemi charger.
As I recall the poster was asking for opinions about it's value.  He was a bit miffed at some input from here but nothing out of the regular need for answers to questions.
The thread is gone. :shruggy:   Did the OP delete his post?  Or was the entire thread deleted.

I feel it would be a courtesy to every one that may have been interested in a thread to have some idea as to why it goes away.

I'm with el dub-----If the thread about Brian Williams (a journalist) is to be considered political than it is to concede that the media is a political entity.  If that is the case than that explains why it is blocked.

Just knowing what we can talk about here is all we need to continue.

If talking about off topic discussions ---in an off topic discussions venue is no longer allowed please let us know the parameters so we can avoid overstepping them.

This may seem contentious in the way I speak but I am trying to get to the chase and using fewer words can sometimes make a point seem that way.

It's all at the moderators discretion.

Having been on this site for almost 10 years w more or less the same moderators, I can tell you that a) they exercise that discretion wisely and b) they give us a pretty wide berth. If they closed it, it was for a reason. And no, they don't owe you an explanation - precisely because of threads like this that just keep the argument going (even if it's through PM's).

Just waiting for someone to bring up the First Amendment... ::)

I've found it best to not question the actions of the mods, and Troy, for that matter (experience talking).  Just appreciate the fact that they do a good job keeping things in order, and that we have a great site to have fun at. :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Troy is the owner of the site.

There are other things besides politics that will get a thread locked, but politics is pretty much a guaranteed lock.  My rule of thumb is, if you question it, don't post it. :Twocents:

I'm just kind of curious. I wondered what the mods worry about before they close a thread? Like the Jennings thread. I didn't see anything political about it at all. But so what. What would have happened if the thread was not locked? Am I missing something? Will the people talking resort to some form of violence if the thread continues. Do the mods know of some danger that will be present if the thread is not locked? Is too much internet space taken up if the thread is not locked? An Ponch, I am not talking to you.
Do you answere for the mods or what?

In the atmosphere of a forum, anything left alone can become an ugly weed that needs to be killed....(I totally get that) but sometimes a good debate is necessary to extract fact from opinions and preserve the natural the flow of a thread - - without killing the root completely so I understand where you are coming from with this topic.

In most cases, we seem to self-moderate ourselves without a lot of help from the Mods (that I know of).

We don't know of any new decisions Troy has made to the contrary..... but the published rules have stayed the same.

This site has two basic minimal rules.  No politics or religion.  People may not like it but these are the rules. You mess around with either...its lockaroo time, and nobody should complain if a thread gets locked for these obvious violations.

On the other hand, this site is also small enough to manage certain offenders with a warning through private message, rather than simply lock the thread down.

I know it costs lots of money and time to run this site, and Troy's efforts are appreciated by guys like me. Some moderators might view their job to keep all the dopey/harmless post to a minimum... but very many funny and talented people on DC.Com have contributed thousands of funny/silly posts and created lots of fun for many years.....and they don't have the feeling of being sent to the Principal's office.  I LOVE THE FUN AND SILLY STUFF.... AND HUMOR IS ALWAYS THE BEST MEDICINE!  :icon_smile_wink:  That's what we love, so please don't take it away.

Its a balancing act.  As long as the majority of people aren't directly opposing the rules, individual offenders should be handled with appropriate due process.

I've been around here a long time.  I know the rules.  I enjoy being here.  I hope I didn't say anything out of line.  Thank you.

Well that's a good answere. Expains some stuff to me. But now I wonder how much it cost to run something like this? I have received good info when I was fixing my charger and have lurked enough in the past to know that there is some serious info here on the site. On the only other site I check out I pay a 20 dollar fee per year. But there are qualified experts on the site and you don't get conflicting info. So its worth it. I mean, whats 20 bucks a year. Maybe the owner here, whoever he is, could try something like that if things get to hard financially. Or, maybe I'm a shill for the owner. Naw. :o

Imagine instead of coming here to enjoy learning what you need to know about your car, sharing experience and fellowship, finding or selling parts.....you sit down and sift through nothing but squabbling, complaints and chicken crap bickering then filter through topics for things turning into forbidden territory. Done for now, you start trying to answer questions and fix problems.  :scratchchin:
Member or not your still a guest at a forum, your asked to maintain a certain standard. You don't have any rights because you don't pay any bills or provide any service. I am offended that you even waste our time confronting the folks who maintain this forum. They have been servicing this site for years and I trust they know when and what to do to from those years of experience doing what others may never even think of.
So many times I've seen things happen here needlessly and wonder why the culprits didn't just PM each other and take the issue out of the forum topics to exchange ideas/opinions or whatever? Is it so hard to just let go sometimes and move on?
I LIKE IT HERE and have nothing but respect for all those who pay the bills and invest their time keeping it running. The 2 areas forbidden, even at the slightest boundary of happen to be the the the two things I don't want anything to do with discussing even when I'm not here.

This is a forum.  Which means an area to discuss views and ideas pertaining to a topic.  Hence, a discussion which is talking about something and possibly reaching a decision.

Yes. The forum here has rules and areas for topics that are not allowed.

Bickering, talking, discussing, etc.  Is and will happen in any forum at any time.  If you do not like it then scroll through that information.  It is not that difficult.   If you want to hold hands and have a group hug every morning, well, good luck on finding that site.

If a moderator here has reasons to shut down a thread.  Than so be it.  I am not one to question his reason because I am sure his intent was for the better good.

However, the one damn thing I want to ask all the moderators is this?  Why in the hell we cannot get tee shirts to support our site and for marketing?  I would buy 5 right now if you had them.  If that means we have to pay a yearly membership fee yearly, fine.  I am willing to support Troy for operating this wonderful site.

oh, ok. Because stuff that gets posted on a public forum is obviously meant to be read by only one person. Perhaps they should invent something where you can communicate with someone else privately. I wonder when them scientists will invent such a device.

As a "moderator" let me try and answer some of your questions......

Troy is the person that pays the bills for this site.  Moderators are volunteers.  If someone chooses to ignore your PM, that is their choice. Moreover a PM is private and should not be called out in a public thread.
The terms and conditions are agreed upon by signing up to be a member of the site.   Even if you pay to use the site, it still doesn't entitle you to break the rules.
Locking/moving/splitting topics is at the discretion of the Moderators and is often discussed beforehand if the offending topic is on the "boarder line" of voiding the sites policies.

Unfortunately if you don't like the rules, we will be happy to show you the door.   I don't mean to come off harsh (typing eloquently is not my strong suit) but that's how it goes.

Well thanks for answering some of my questions. What are the rules I am breaking. OK, I know about the two locked threads. That was in the PAST. I know about politics and religion. I also know where the door is. I question stuff, its my nature. You wont change that. So what part of, "Can you explain what part of the thread about Williams was political. Im slow and was just wondering." can you explain. Or, are you saying, I am a mod and don't have to explain. Because I am not seeing anything political of religious in it.Or, am I breaking some rules by asking questions?

B5blue and just 6t9 charger have spelled it out very clearly IMO.

The are other sites that include a specific section for political/religious
discussion. The one that comes to mind is For A Bodies Only.

Personally I'm very grateful I found DC.Com because of it's very mature
and subject specific qualities. Debates between members herein regarding
subjects that are clearly described by Troy - THE OWNER OF THIS site -
as prohibited should indeed be taken up in the PM option.
I agree the mods allow a great of latitude before they impose a lock.
That's their job.

This forum is about our hobby, our addiction, the financial ruin
and divorces we have chosen to hold above all other lesser things
in our lives.  :smilielol:

I'm good with it, it's why I'm here.

Thanks Troy for this gift you give us. Mods keep on keepin' on.   :2thumbs:

The rest of us will try to keep Skip68 in check. A task not for the faint of heart.   :D
