Roof Rail Weatherstripping Trim Question

Hey guys-     I've got about three sets of trim that I've been going through trying to sort out what I need and what I don't and I've got a question about the really long pieces of trim that follow the roof line above the door windows that hold the weatherstripping.  They're shaped kind of like a channel for the weatherstripping to fit into.  Anyway, I've got two sets of them that I pulled off of 2 different 68' Chargers and they are different from one another.  One set is completely made of stainless and the other set of only stainless on the outside edge and is galvanized on the back side and where the weatherstipping goes.  I'm just wondering if one of them came off of a later car or something.  I'm sure that the second set was cheaper to make due to having less stainless on it.  If anyone knows if they changed in 69 or 70 or if anyone else has ever noticed this difference I'd appreciate any input.  I'm trying to get it all sorted out and want to make sure I'm putting the right trim back on my car.  Thanks guys, Tipopiola

my 69 has stainless on the out side and galvanise on the inside ,  it was built November 68 , at hamtramck when i dismantaled it for restoration you could see clearly they  had never been removed since being fitted at the factory. just an idea but it might have be different Assembly plants , say stainless was used at hamtramck and galvanise at st'louis , or it might be from a 70 or a plymouth

The trim you are speaking of, on my 68 R/T, that was not previously taken apart prior to my complete paint job was stainless with the galvanized finish. Car is number matching and everything was there on the car. Even the old foam gasket against the body was still intact. My Charger was built in March 4, 1968.  When I removed the trim to clean it and polish it, it was both stainless steel with other sections - backside was galvanized or some other greyish finish to it. When I started polishing the trim, even the greyish metal started to come up very shiny as stainless - but I did'nt bother and concentrated on the stainless.

Of the two sets that I pulled off, the all stainless came off my 68 R/T with a build date of 4-24.  The stainless and galvanized trim that I have came off my other 68 with a build date of 11-17.  Not sure if that would make a difference or not.  I was also thinking that one set or the other could have possibly came off another b-body.  Any more ideas?  Thanks for the help so far!  Tipopiola

Sorry I can't answer as to what is correct.  I have only seen galvanized with the stainless trim for the outer edge.

I don't think you will see anything but the stainless edge, once installed on the car with the weatherstripping mounted in the channel.

Just makes me wonder where the all stainless trim came from originally.  Tipopiola
