did original cars actually have a large seal from lower valance to the K-member? I bought one for mine back in the 90's, took it off because it was a pain to change oil filter....does anyone actually have one on their car?

I wonder how much this large piece of rubber actually helped cooling of radiator and heat extraction from under the hood....I still have mine, I think....most cars I have looked at over the years does not have this piece

I seem to recall reading somewhere that this piece was for air deflection to prevent as much air buildup under the hood cutting down on lift and aiding in aerodynamic airflow efficency under the car. Makes sense since it isn't located before the radiator which is the only place a cooling/air flow advantage would be realized. But, yeah-makes it a pain to change the oil filter!
