The part it the picture came off of my 69 Charger.  Never seen anything like it before.  I know what it is, but does anyone else?  I'll post clues as time goes on.  Right now all I can say is that it does come off a 69 Charger and it is not aftermarket or some kind of custom addition.  Good luck.

techincally, Mitch
if its not original to your car and was added , thats what i would classify as as custom mod addition
i give up , staring at this thing,
captured nut, good size , reasonably thick plate bracket , had to hold something and be strongly mounted,
will have to wait for first clue,
was thinking tow hitch mounting plate  :icon_smile_question:

tan top

:scratchchin:     looks kind of familiar , but  :scratchchin:   what size is the thread or bolt  for welded on captive nut thingy  ?

I sort of want to say its some kind of  Gerry rigged repair a thread for the door hinge  , or  may be  the striker  ,   threaded plate inside the quarter  :scratchchin:

need something that gives reference to scale  ;)

No and no.  Part was originally welded to mount it in place.  On my car one spot weld didn't take and the other rusted thru.  I'll take another pic later.

green69rt

Picture of the other side showing only one spot weld that took.  All the rusty area is buried behind other sheet metal.  Still no idea?    Ok, one BIG clue...I was removing the windows of the driver side door when I found it.  If that doesn't give it away then I don't know what will!

tan top

think   that bracket with  a welded on captive nut  , should  be spot welded , up inside the front of the door , vent window frame is clamped to it

see white circle in first picture ,  ignore  the green arrows & letters  , that was for another thread

second picture ,  the hole the bolt goes through , to clamp on said bracket  :scratchchin:

if its not this I give up , i'm done   :smilie_help: :ahum:   :cryin:

my only other thought was  inner rocker or inner roof seat belt bolt  attaching captive weld on captive nut strengthening plate ,  that was a wild guess , seeing ive never had to cut my car open & replace  weld stuff  :P , that was straight down the drain , when I saw  your second picture  :yesnod: :scratchchin:

Well, tan top gets the cigar.

This pic shows me pointing to where it is on my passenger door, second pic shows it missing on the driver door.  When I unbolted the wing vent frame it just fell in the bottom of the door,  I thought oh-oh!

Chrysler quality control ,  wonder if your car was built on a Friday afternoon or Monday morning   ;D

found some sloppy factory work on mine & things left off  ,  my SPD  was a Friday   think mine was actually built that   Friday afternoon

I'll have to look, but have found other spot welds that did not take.  Just part of the hobby... :shruggy:

fy469rtse

I would never had guessed that Mitch ,
Bad manufacturing or was this just how high the rust was invading your car
Remember we have all seen your build thread , you replaced a lot of steel

When I took my roof off I found a roof frame bow? (Don't know what the official name is) that was loose on the driver side. It was never spot welded to the side frame like all the others.

green69rt

When I replaced the upper cowl on my car, more than a couple of the spot welds did not connect.  Good thing many other welds did hold. :eek2:
