Have to make the attempt some time, there are precautions you can take, but I've let mine sit 10 years and started it without prelubing the cylinders and it has survived its 30 year storage.

Cool that someone got lucky and was in the position to save one.  doubt I'll come across one I could save and rebuild, I think one old muscle car is about my limit, going to try to get my stealth turbo up and running again soon, we'll see how that goes, the wife wants me to sell it, I'd like to keep it, it was a blast to drive when new.
