How to make your small block sound big

I have a 318 in my charger and when i got it last year one of the mufflers were blown out so i needed to put a new one on so i put on a new system from the headers back using 2 1/2 pipe kit from jegs a set of glasspacks from summit that I ran on another car i had and it made my small block sound like it has more motor than it dose.  I did have to add a couple of small pieces of pipe because the kit is not meant for the glasspacks but it all worked out. here a couple photos and a couple videos of it.

With 2-1/2" twin pipes on a 318 the difference in HP between ANY muffler from worst to best is almost nothing. He may even benefit from more back pressure.

Sorry nothing big.. I use it as a buffer between my wife's car and the charger in the winter. I have enough room to put my car across the back of my garage for the winter,than i can get my jeep and her rav 4 in for the winter as well. Its from a race team i used to work on in the bush north series at the time.

I've seen an exhaust company do a muffler test (in person) and the glasspack was reducing the exhaust flow and performance.
I have no proof other than what I've seen with my own eyes, that's why it's just my

Another good set of mufflers to get more noise out of a small block are Magnaflow Straight Open mufflers.  They're nowhere near as loud, but will still carry that deep throaty growl.  Have had both on my 347SBF, loved the glasspacks with every morsel of my young soul, however the Toronto Police Force did not...  That was a fun court case

Are you installing a drive shaft loop? Just in case.

No it dont need a drive shaft loop. As far as the performance comments..... Its a 318 its not a performance car its a driver so a gain or loss in performance dont really matter to me. I want a mean sound, want bark not bite in this case. I just got rid of a pass any thing but a gas station car with those same mufflers and it held its own. I will not be racing anyone in this car.

There are a lot of dynamics to it all other than just the sound.  If you talk to any of the FAST drivers, most of them are using Dynomax Pro Flo mufflers because they not only reduce the sounds to a low rumble, but they also scavenge better than an open exhaust and can generate additional flow through the system, which is a big deal when you are limited to factory manifolds.

Well stated!  I use the dynomax pro flo and have been extremely pleased!
