Looking at buying a 2003 HEMI ram, 4 door, short bed, Laramie, 4x4. Beautiful blacked out truck looks really well taken care of. Has some pretty grippy 35" tires but I  can't tell that it has ever been "off roading" per say. Biggest downfall is its racked up around 220k miles. Is this a lot for these new HEMI's? Things to look for? Truck overall looks extremely clean, small rust issue above the driver side rear wheel which all of these trucks around here of that era have. He's asking 12k but I think I can haggle him alittle. What do you guys think? I"ve never invested in a nice newer truck before and have always steered clear of modern vehicles but I think its about time my 92 d250 with 500k miles is retired to a work only truck, the ol' cummins still runs strong but everything else is showing its age
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

Back N Black

I have a 2006 Ram with the 5.7 and no issues at all, runs and drives great.
Does the veh have 220 miles or 220 kilometers? big difference.

220 KM = 136 Miles

220 Miles = 354 Kilometers.

12 grand seem a little high for a 2003.  :Twocents:

12k seems like a lot for an older truck with high miles.

These are very nice driving trucks.   They will make your '93 feel like a dump truck.   Fuel mileage on the early Hemis of this vintage is not the best.      My 2500 2wd gets 12-14 mpg.

If you don't need 4wd,  you can look for a 2wd and take the discount.

Speaking to off road use. I use to 4 wheel extensively back in the day.
What I would do is spend some time laying on a creeper carefully inspecting
the under undercarriage and running gear. Look for scratches/gouges on the skid
plates and axle bottoms. Look for anything that looks bent.
Look for rock damage to all the sheet metal. Finally, look for pockets
of heavy caked mud in all the nooks and crannies.......more than the
usual accumulation of sediment from years of normal use.  :Twocents:

The asking price based on the mileage is very steep IMO.

Yeah with that mileage I don't even think he should be asking for five figures...

I have 215,000 on my 2007. I am confident to drive it anywhere just like I ddid when I bought it new.

charger_fan_4ever

Don't some of those hemis have lifter issues ?

GOTWING

I sold my 2004 dead mint four door hemi sport 4x4 with 128k for $12,000 about a year + ago. Look the truck up on Kelly blue book private party value. FYI my truck only had a water pump go bad in all of those miles outside of normal wear maintenance items. :2thumbs:

Cheapskates are selfish pricks. This is why so many people get pissed at Craigslist lowballers. Offer a fair price and maybe society will follow. People that offer waaay too low perpetuate the trend of annoying everyone trying to get a fair price.

twodko

True that KD.

With CL, patience and caution are key.

Most folks know when not to respond, or respond again, to a
CL contact.

Lowballers are just "probing the perimeter" for weakness. Be patient and don't get your hackles up.
The serious "lowballers" will come around with decent offers if the item is what they want.
The real scum fades away.

We've all been "lowballers".......we've all "tested the defenses".
We know what the battle plan is as it were. We all play the game no?

I never lowball people. If I think their price is way too high, I don't even bother with them. I often pay the asking price at swap meets when the part is priced fairly. I can be a dick at many things, but I am reasonable and fair when buying and selling stuff. A reasonable seller deserves to be treated fairly. Insulting them with a 1/2 price offer is the move of an inconsiderate assclown. Is money really worth looking like a piece of crap and making the seller angry? Do these people care more about cash than their own image or the feelings of a fair and reasonable seller?
Screw all that. I'm not made of money, but I have pride. If the price is fair, I pay it without even offering less. I do this sometimes hoping to receive the same treatment when I sell stuff. More than 50% of the time when I have a swap meet booth, my stuff sells for the posted price. Karma is real, people. Treat others with respect and it really does come back around eventually.

Depending on where you live, 2002 and 2003 (at least I know) rust BAD!

$12k is Cummins money for that year and miles.

That's a $6k-$7k truck if it's clean and has maintenance history.
