I was taking my front drums off my 69 charger and realized they do not look the same. nor are they built the same, I think
the first pi is my driver side drum witch came off easy leaving the hub on the spindle
the second pic is a different looking drum with some sort of spring on the outside. I have to take the hub off with the drum together for some reason. I beat it up pretty good and nothing so hub and all came off. not sure if that's normal. and what is up with the tow different hubs???

yes second picture is correct , spring round the out side of the drum ,  & the hub has to come off  all in one hit ,  you have to remove the wheel bearing nut & outer bearing , have you  measured the width of the drums & shoes ? top picture looks a bit narrow , could be a optical illusion  , call me nutts , the drum in the top ( first picture )sort of looks like a rear one , from where i'm looking  ,   looks like it has  had new wheel studs , so prolly not been broached ( spelling / word  :-\ )  to the drum :scratchchin:

Damn it. I knew something was wrong. The PO didn't care one bit for this car. Oh well I'm gonna replace both since they are out. The pass. side studs look bad. Where can I get parts, any parts store. Or is there a good online seller. Need to rebuild brakes too. If it's too much I might spring for MPB disk swap. I'd just hate to have to do the booster swap again. I just did it on these. Crap

there are two kind of set ups, some have cast drums & composite drums & it looks like you have one of each & you cant mix hubs & drums. with each other

The drum that came off seperate from the hub is an aftermarket replacement. The one with the spring is the original factory one. I have 10 and 11 inch front drums with hubs in good used condition if you still need some PM or E-Mail me

Thanks, I will if I need them. Considering disk swap. I'll let you know.

ok, so here are both pulled off the car. i'm gonna put in new bearings and get new drums. how do i get that drum off the hub, does it come off. i'm just still confused about the two differences. i need both new drums for sure. and i need new studs for the one on the left. may just need to buy the hub and drum together, but then i have an extra hub from the one on the right. crap, would napa have bearings for these?

the studs are swedged ,you have to grind the swedge off so the stud can be knocked out.look at the very bottom of the threads

Ok, so to take the studs outta the left one I grind around them and knock them out
I can reuse the hub and get new studs and drum for it. Like how they did on the other?

Pete in NH

Hi Luke,

NAPA should have the inner and outer bearings. Rock Auto has them also at much better prices if you can wait a few days.

I'm doing a scarebird conversion on my 69 Barracuda this winter and has to deal with those swaged studs. A 5/8" hole saw takes the swage right out.  I used the saw to cut right through the old drum until it just reached the hub. I used one of the old lug nuts on the studs and a few whacks with a hammer and they came right out. I used a big bench vise to press in the new studs.

lukedukem

you were right Pete, NAPA did have the bearings, and wheel studs too which was surprising. but i had to order the seals and hubs from rockauto.
